As a Honduran, I appreciate your acknowledgement of my home country, as a poster what the frick are you trying to prove by calling her Honduras and Guatemala Chavez? lmao your post wouldn't have been invalidated without it.
It's how Drinker referred to her in his video. I think he called her Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Costa Rica too.

I think it’s now cool to hate on Marvel movies so some go into the film looking to tear it apart and not to simply enjoy it. Sad.
Agree and disagree at the same time. You can definitely tell when someone is ripping a movie that has a motivation behind the criticisms. At the same time, I have not been a big fan at all of the movies since Endgame and the shows have been hit and miss for me as well.
I enjoyed the latest Dr. Strange, it wasn't a full Raimi movie but it was enough to leave me satisfied. I guess the only issues I really have are...
- They tried to make Wanda sympathetic while also just massacring people, doesn't really work. They need to fully commit to her going with the villain role.
- Kinda thought we would see more Multiverses. This isn't a big complaint because they were able to keep the story tight but I was expecting a bit more than a one-second blip of a few other realities. I think we got three total?
- The Illuminati. Basically, just a straight-up marketing gimmick that was cashing in on the nostalgia of the latest Spider-Man. Would've preferred to see them in a later movie if it meant a bit more screentime and if the fight sequence looked better. It totally took me out of the movie when you can tell how edited it's been and John Krasinski looks like a floating head in that suit. Looked like they were all spaced out in front of a green screen, crazy Raimi could make his last superhero trilogy look better than this one and it's been years later.
Overall a fun movie but some of the latest MCU movies do deserve to be torn apart.

You know what he will say before he even starts his review. He is a gimmick. Most YT reviewers are. I love RLM but they are a gimmick too. But at least with them, you aren't always sure if they will favor a movie or now.

Yeah it’s going to be tricky for Reed Richards. He ought to be carrying around weapons he builds, and the stretch FX should be mostly with his arms.
Of course they can always put The Maker helmet on him to nullify some of the look.
fricking Black Bolt looked great though.

the smirk he had when they were saying he could kill Wanda.....you just knew somethign was about to happen.
personally i think the illuminati got what they deserved - they were all arrogant, and im glad Wanda pasted them.

He's gone a bit overboard with it.
I cannot remember the last review he did where he didn't refer to "The Message" - even when to comment that it isn't present in whatever he's talking about.
I guess he figures that he'll lose viewers if he doesn't bring it up every single episode.

Yeah The Illuminati overplayed their hand in particular the women on the board.
It was a little funny that the censors can show Black Bolt and Reed having their brains explode but can’t show gruesome deaths for women.
Now that being said, Strange overplayed his hand at the beginning of the movie.
He barely knows Wanda. He talks shite about all the other Avengers, including the archer with the Mohawk.
You know? The one who is actually closest with Wanda out of any remaining Avenger by a long shot.
So yeah, if Hawkeye was there, this would’ve been over before it started.
Or even White Vision-whereabouts unknown.
Wong is connected to the rest of the Avengers-as seen in Shang Chi, we can’t get location on Vision?
Of course, I loved the movie but as a very obvious MCU guy, these are the things I think about.

I never read the comics but from my understanding from what I’ve heard is that’s how they are in the comics as well

I mean it is kind of funny. When they created her they tried to pass her off as latina/hispanic/lgbtq representation character, but the only problem was that she was an alien. Then they retconned her to actually be those things. Modern comics is so fun.

It was also weird to show those gruesome deaths, then have to show a mundane death for Captain Marvel.
Getting killed by something that shouldn't even give her a mild bruise, all because they were concerned about showing too violent a death.
I remember an old Cracked show, After Hours, where they were talking about tropes in movies and one (brought up by the female cast member) was that they rarely depict women being shot in the head - and the most famous one, from Kill Bill, cuts away almost immediately.

They were varying shades of arrogance. The initial group was:
Reed Richards (not super arrogant, but kinda)
Tony Stark (very arrogant)
Namor (ridiculously arrogant)
Black Bolt (more confident, less arrogant)
Professor X (arrogant or not depending on the writer)
Doctor Strange
At various times Captain America and Black Panther are added.
The most arrogant things the Illuminati did (arrogant, in this case, in presuming they knew what was best for everyone else):
1. Blasted Hulk off into space (this leads to World War Hulk, but that's not entirely their fault - Hulk was supposed to land on idyllic planet but knocked the ship off course, and then when locals on Sakaar caused the ship to explode he instead claimed the Illuminati designed it to explode)
2. Hid the Infinity Stones (which led to the Red Hood finding out about them after Black Bolt's death, and there was a story arc where they had to inform the entire Avengers, FF, and other heroes about what they had done)
3. Destroying alternate Earths to prevent the destruction of Earth-616 (the main Marvel comics earth) through the use of anti-matter devices (as the alternate planets were part of incursions into the universe which would lead to one or both planets' destruction if nothing was done)
So yeah. It was an interesting concept, but they also failed to stop the Secret Invasion and Siege storylines.

I think they're finding out the hard way it's VERY hard to make a sympathetic villain who is ALSO a credible threat to beings that can do the things that Doctor Strange, Thor, Hulk, etc can do. They managed it with Thanos (even though it leaves open why they didn't explain why he couldn't have just created infinite resources with the stones - his comic motivation for killing off half the universe is a promise and infatuation with Death), but that is a tall order.

Yeah this is what I’m referring to.
We cant show Peggy Carter being cut in half after that? Give me a break.
Also, I get she’s at similar if not the exact one from What If?…but if Captain Carter shows up again, in the multiverse, the law of diminishing returns is going to hit pretty hard.
To do this to Reed and Black Bolt-both franchise players is alarming. In what is there big screen MCU debut. (Or at least a story set within the parameters of a 616 story)
Hopefully the 616 Reed’s next scene is him building a device that counteracts hex magic.

I mean, I had no interest in seeing someone cut in half and their guts spill out.
I also didn't need to see Black Bolt's head get blown out from the inside.

I think they'll abandon it considering they gave it too much ability. She kills a man without internal organs, kills two of the most powerful beings in the multiverse without trying too hard (Captain Marvel and Black Bolt) and overpowers Professor X while within the mindscape where he's at his most powerful.
It was definitely overkill to prove her as a threat.
I definitely agree that it was an absurd short amount of screen time just to kill off the entire Illuminati. You could have killed one or two in order to prove your point, or just blast them off into their own universes.

Drinker called it a mess with very good acting performances considering the script and material (with the exception of America/Honduras/Guatemala Chavez) and there was apparently too much studio interference to be a true Raimi movie. Noted Strange had been completely dumbed down and did things (namely, trusting people) that his character would never have done and that the continuing efforts to make SW a sympathetic villain made zero sense
I really thought I would like the movie early on but it progressively lost more and more of my interest.
First glimpse of Wanda and the boys I thought it was amazing. But she rapidly declines into a less than consistent character. She is written essentially as a sociopath with no regard for life but we're supposed to identify with her as sympathetic because she is a loving mother? It just didn't work for me. She's neither a hero nor a compelling villain ultimately.
The America character essentially had no character. Rachel McAdams (who missed the pitch meeting to be female mole man in the next F4) was almost interesting.
There were okay bits but often balanced by stupid. The zombie Strange was creative and a start but even the special effects were essentially Evil Dead quality and no longer good enough.
I liked the Black Bolt death and Reed's. Captain Marvel's was stupid, she eats 20 ton falling objects for breakfast.

At least Black Bolt doesn’t constantly run his mouth.

Are we supposed to sympathize with her? I get the feeling that we’re supposed to understand why she’s doing what she’s doing. We didn’t sympathize with Thanos but we understood his reasoning. Wanda was pretty traumatized after Endgame and then the events of WV didn’t make it any better for her mental state.
This is just the result of what happens when someone as powerful as Wanda had a mental break
