re: Do you think it possible JJ Abrams retcons a key death in The Last Jedi? (Spoilers)

r, even the SJW aspects, which they beat us over the head with, but oddly always seemed to end in complete failure. There had to be some message in that, like "maybe you DO need flyboys", or "some times you DO have to fight".
All he really needed was the "dicks F arseholes" sentence from Team America to make that point clear.
I don't think he set out to make a horrible film. I also think he thinks he's clever and tried to do a lot of things in there. Execution was horrible. Everything was clearly rushed. End product was so bad its impossible to figure out what was "clever" and what was accidental. Even if your theory is true, I'd give it a 50% chance to be something JJ comes up with to try and salvage the mess rather than something intentional RJ did.

I’d almost rather they not make any more Star Wars films

If Darth Rose doesn't happen, I'm never watching Star Wars again.

Probably the most controversial death in the whole film was Luke Skywalker's at the end of The Last Jedi

Careful. That one guy with the blade runner obsession will be here shortly to defend the concept of Space Leia Poppins
Making fun of that atrocity is like his bat signal

Maybe they go back to when Leia was sucked out into space and the rest of the movie was just a dream she was having as she died. That way the rest of the movie never really happened and she is killed off and Luke gets to stay.

I think it’s more likely he retcons Snoke’s death than Luke’s. Basically he just didn’t die and anticipated what Kylo would do.
Luke went out like a boss at least and not just for shock value. Really from a practical standpoint, his death makes sense. His story has been told plus he’ll probably show up as a force ghost to further train Rey anyway. Snoke dying like he did and when he did makes no sense in the grand narrative aside than to have a shocking moment and tease Kylo turning to the light. Which he ultimately didn’t, at least not yet.

I think jj will reveal that Luke was secretly working with space trump all along and that Rey was a better Jedi because Jedi’s are young and hip and can change the world through girl power

Should but probably won’t. We never got to see Luke be a badass at the height of his power

That is the biggest bummer. Even in ROTJ he wasn’t a Jedi master in full control. I want to see him in action a few years after ROTJ.

For the life of me, I don't understand why they just didn't have Luke go God Mode on some imperial scum.

quote:Yep, that movie is still a jumbled mess, but at least it would clear up the Luke situation
Also, just to add - if your theory is correct..
It takes TLJ from horrifically awful movie to just terrible.

There are so many other issues with it
There's a reason the Resistance leadership is so incompetent, and makes the wrong decisions. That, honestly, objectively, is put on a plate for us. But I can't figure out why yet.
I mean, they 'resist' by running and hiding instead of fighting; and they die anyway.
They apparently spend precious resources buying a squadron of bombers, which would be useless against TIE fighters, and although able to take out 1 capital ship, it was still a suicide mission for everyone.
And then they waste a bunch of pilots to fly these, when if they were caught out in the open (as they were), they're dead.
I GUESS Poe made the best of a horrible situation...
is that what they wanted to show? Will the Resistance be better under him?

Those bombers were pretty absurdly slow.

quote:It might seem like nitpicking, but seriously- the Resistance has to have a pretty tight budget. Buy X Wings, maybe a couple small frigates, etc.
Those bombers were pretty absurdly slow.
Those bombers were useless deathtraps for anything other than bombing a planet while enjoying total air superiority. When, if ever, were they going to be in that position? Why waste pilots and crew manning them at all, and especially when they were trying to escape?
Leia (and Holdo?) were the stupid-asses for picking them up in the first place, and at least in Poe's plan, they managed to take out a target before being wiped out.
Hell, you could have bought more gas with the money spent on them

The bombers must not always be so slow. They’d literally never get anywhere.

If he was truly a force ghost, why the hell was the ghost wearing a jedi robe? It clearly falls to the ground when he "dies."

It's the scene in question. Watch it closely- and compare. Luke's looking at 2 suns, and he's got a pretty wide open area behind him.
Then, it changes back to 1 sun, and he's closer to the cave/rock... and then he vanishes.
Ahch-To has two suns. So I'm not sure how far you can take your theory. I think what's more plausible is that he used the force in some new way to transport himself elsewhere.

But Star Wars is a lot like your favorite football team. Unforgettable childhood memories, of things not as good as you remember them being. Like, just iconic memories. Unbelievable effects (for the time), incredible action, and The Good Guys won.
And now, it's all just a corporate shadow of what it once was. Sucking at your wallet and giving you heartburn. You say "frick this, I'm a grown man with a family, I can find better things to do. Like in this case, cut the grass".
But- What If... they recapture the magic one last time...?
Can't help it. Like football, if you cut if off entirely because it now sucks, then you give away that small chance that it can once more exhilarate you.
