At this point give GOTG to Taika Waititi and give the Justice League to James Gunn

His general movie approach certainly fits. He has some directing chops, and he can be guided a little better.

Remember, Iron Man 3, while better than people remember, was still prior to Marvel really finding their full scope and rhythm, even though it came after Avengers. It feels a little off because they were simply testing what worked and what didn't.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys are good films. The Predator looks good.

I just wanted to comment that this might have been my favorite running gag in a movie.

That is my friend “tree” was great as well.

The fact that Steve is the only one to answer him "I am Steve Rogers," is hilarious.

I'd argue that Phase One was the best phase of the MCU. There have been some gems within the MCU since then (such as Captain America: Winter Soldier), but Phase One was a time when Marvel was pure and had yet to be polluted by commercialism.

Would be an absolutely terrible decision.

GOTG 2 was a big drop off from the original anyway.

43rd downvote.

Regardless, I’ll still see GOTG 3. Hopeful that it’s still at least decent.

While it was definitely not as good, I don't think it was that much of a drop off.

The first one benefits from pretty much zero expectation and that fact that it was so well done.

The second one is harder to pull off because the expectation is set from the first one.

The second one has some very excellent stuff in it, including a great arc for Yondu, introduction of Mantis, baby groot, etc.

I disagree with you insofar as I think Marvel knew what they generally wanted their movies to be, but ...

I agree with this and IM3 largely proved that fricking with the formula doesn't work for the audience, nevermind that it is actually a pretty damn good movie, introduces a very human character arc to Stark, and has the most epic head fake in film history with the Mandarin. The problem was the actual villain was fairly weak and Pepper Potts just doesn't belong in a suit. Paltrow looked way out of place in that thing.

All that to say that I love Shane Black and I think he could pull off a great GotG movie, but there's no way he doesn't jack with the script. He's a writer first and will have a near impossible time keeping his hands off.

It's a tough look for Disney. Marvel makes money, but it's just too easy for more dirty jokes/weird party pics to come out and really mess with the Mouse.

In the long run, it is the only decision Disney can make.

Despite what some people think, Gunn doesn't own GotG, nor the Marvel Universe. He is paid help. And just like all paid help, if you are found to have done things that do not align with the company image, you can and will be fired.

Time to move on and find the best person available.
