Snow White should be an untouchable character/movie in the Disney IP catalogue.
The original movie literally made the Disney Company. If that movie had flopped Disney is bankrupt and done, there’s no ensuing IP, no theme parks, feature animation is probably never mainstreamed, and Mickey Mouse is basically just a forgotten cartoon from the 1920s.
I just read a pretty fascinating book about Walt, and people don’t understand the risks he took with that film. He went deep into debt and was selling off his personal belongings to help finance it. Walt wasn’t the type to rest on his laurels or look back, but Snow White was pretty sacred to him.
It’s unreal how this remake ever got greenlit in the first place, let alone allowed to get to this point. Disney should have treated this with care, sensitivity, and extremely high standards. Instead, they just randomly cast whomever and allowed them to spew whatever bullshite they wanted and the original movie and telling a modern story.
It would be like the Yankees unretiring Babe Ruth’s number 3 and issuing it to a new player who then proceeded to talk shite about Ruth and the Yankees of 1920s and 1930s.

Snow white isn't disney IP. It predates Disney by quite a bit and the original was a brunette. Is there some kind of once you go blonde you cant go back rule?

I’m well aware Snow White is a Grimm fairy tale (as are many of Disney’s works).
I’m talking about the Disney movie and how it’s beyond me as to how Disney greenlit a live action remake given its foundational importance to the company.

there's no use trying to reason with some of these posters.
they have their torches out and Disney must burn.
they are gonna have blue balls for a long time when it never happens. as you said the parks are just steadily printing cash and they had 3 hugely (billion dollar) movies last year.
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to explain how they actually spent 6 billion making those movies though.

It's not hard to fathom how this movie got greenlit. They are taking their beloved classics bc there is an established fan base and making them live action. Recent years they have leaned toward the diverse crowd because they figure the established crowd won't leave. That was a huge mistake.
By catering to the diverse crowd, they changed what made the animated films so beloved. Instead of saying " we made a mistake", they double down. The end result is more movies that end up losing money.
Disney does not care bc the theme parks is their money maker. They lose money with the parks, they will change.
