i'm getting to really like it, but they do tempt me with becoming a subscriber because they almost exclusively air Krystal's socialist, pro-union, Berniesque monologues and then stick Saagar's rebuttal behind the paywall.

100% I would like it to actually be just the facts. Just straight up read me the facts and show me some video or photos. But even that has inherent bias by the fact that they decide what I see.

Now news has to be infotainment to try to keep the attention of the audience.

This is the inherent problem with commercial news - its a ratings game. News networks are owned by large corporations who have a bottom line to create wealth for its investors. This means creating a niche audience, addicting them to your product, warning them away from the competition, and creating content that keeps people constantly engaged (the easiest way to do this is to make people feel scared or angry) - Its the same psychology of a cult.

If anyone wants to have a larger discussion about the the negatives of capitalism, i am here for it. But even when you take away the profit motive, bias still exists in every journalistic medium. The initial selection of where to point the camera or who you interview contains bias. Chomsky (the Manufacturing Consent theory) would say the solution is to understand the filters which create the bias and be able to see beyond it when understanding truth. Absorb all the narratives, understand the motivations behind why that story was created, understand all sides of discourse and then look outside the framework that was created to find truth. Most times the motive is to create division as a distraction from an common ideal we all share. The secret to WR Hearst's success was to own both papers, not just to get money from both sides, but to frame the discussion so that the outcome was always something he could live with.

I've never watched Newsmax, but how's that different from any other news network?

Dish is still down. Don't recall a time where a company of their size was down this long. They have to be hemorrhaging money. They can't activate equipment or sign up new customers. I wonder how much ransom was asked.

Newsmax is the only viable news source on television.
The Newsmax virus escaped (was released) from the MyPillow® factory on the Canadian border and was spread by the entertainment elite of The Daily Wire during a nationwide press junket for Gina Carano's woke western streaming release.

I've never understood how people put up with Dish and the constant demand that consumers petition providers to get the TV channels they're already paying for back instead of blaming Dish for not figuring it out and negotiating a deal.

Live Now from Fox is probably the closest thing to a straight news network today. There are no stand-alone shows with opinions or commentary. When the President is speaking somewhere, they show his speech and move on. They don't have a panel break it down and tell you what he said for the next 24 hours. Occasionally, they'll throw in a national weather forecast.

Earlier they showed the Senate hearing with Merrick Garland, now they're giving updates from the Murdaugh trial, and coming up they're showing the UN's press conference about Iraq's visit.

I had dish for years, dropped it during football season because they got in a channel dispute and I couldn't get the Razorback game.

Now I'm on YouTube TV and couldn't be happier. The only thing I don't like about YouTubeTV is the lack of channel numbers so you can tune directly to a channel, and that I don't have a "back" button to switch back to the previous channel.

I think I have finally figured out this with the older generation. It's that TV was/has always been associated with channel numbers. Turn to channel 3 for the news. Turn to channel 2 for HBO. I know YouTube TV does not have channel numbers, do any of the others?

i want to say sling's are numbered but that's worthless if you have 1 of 2 packages.

i will say this, if i'm at my parents (Dish) or my in-laws (Direct) i know immediately to go to Channel 140 or 205 for sports.

couldn't tell you another channel except that the naughty ones are after HBO, Starz, etc.

I would wager that if somebody dropped DTV because of newsmax, they probably don’t know they could just get it from Pluto for free.

No doubt. Newsmax viewers are not the brightest bulbs.

Apparently a lot of these TV companies are undergoing some major problems right now.

Sling local channels and local setups have been down for days and apparently their service dept was so bombarded with calls they won't even take them right now.

Something is up. Smart people have been saying to watch for an uptick in cyber attacks over the next year or two. This could be only the beninning.

The only people I know that have Dish/DTV are my parents and in-laws. They just don’t know how to navigate sling/Hulu/YouTubeTV and will ride satellite to their graves.

I’m one of the weirdos who still has DirecTV. If it wasn’t for regional sports networks (Braves) I’d probably let it go, but honestly it’s not that much more money if you have a promotion. I pay $79/month, and get HBO max included. To me it’s worth it to get to watch everything I want.
