while expeditious and certainly painless, that just isn't, in a matter of speaking, the American way

I don't know if pushing people medically incapable of doing the tasks before them is "The American Way", but it most assuredly isn't "The Marine Corps Way" or "The American Military Way."

Jessep is in the business of saving lives. That is a responsibility that he takes pretty seriously. And he believes that taking a Marine who’s not quite up to the job and shipping him off to some other assignment puts lives in danger.

Technically after two failed PTs, he should have been discharged from the Marine Corps.

Anyone who can pass the physical requirements at USMC boot camp but then has trouble with standard PT tests upon deployment should be medically evaluated as well to see if something has changed.

A decent commander would have recognized that Santiago was trying hard to get in shape and pass, and failing, and would have had a medical examination done, or would have seen Santiago was NOT working hard, was getting lackadaisical, and would have dishonorably discharged him after 2-3 failed PT tests.

I’ve always said Christopher Guest was the real villain in A Few Good Men.

No one gets a DD over failing a couple of PFTs.

He’s no where near the level of villain as LT Cmdr Joanne Galloway

That code red was the only thing separating Colonel Jessup from 4000 Cubans who were trained to kill him if they could ever get that 1950 Studebaker running fast enough to crash the gate.

One of the best lines imo..

Kaffey meets aunt Jenny and says he expected someone older. Aunt Jenny says me too.

Deep down in places that you don't talk about at parties, you want him on that wall.... you need him on that wall.

"Hm? "Objection." "Overruled." "Oh, no, no, no. No, I STRENUOUSLY object." "Oh. Well, if you strenuously object then I should take some time to reconsider."

He uses words like honor, code, loyalty... as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline.
