Did British people find Austin Powers funny?

With that Mike Meyer’s Dr evil Verizon commercial coming out recently, I watched the first Austin powers movie and clips of the other two and felt like
They mostly held up really well. They are well written and the characters, at least the main ones, were well developed.
Some of the more slapstick gags that seemed funny to me when the movies were released did feel a bit dated however but overall still a very funny and entertaining watch. Yet the changes in humor from then to now had me start thinking about how British humor has always differed from ours and I wonder what they thought of these movies.
I wonder if the humor of these films translated across the pond?

British people will laugh at anything as long as it's PC.

They thought the movies were funny, like us. Myers parents are British. Migrated to Ontario before he was born. He knew/knows British humor.

Makes me think of a Workaholics quote:
"I have a more refined, dry, British sense of humour, à la the funniest movie of all time, Austin Powers."

The first one came out right when Diana died so it didn't get a big release in the UK but the other two made about $40M each in theaters in the UK.

She was great. One of my two favorite teachers everywhere. But she was very opinionated

I remember loving the first two. After the 2nd one became a blockbuster hit, people did not stop quoting it for what seemed like eons. It began to annoy me. I heard Goldmember was mid, so I skipped it. I didn't watch any Austin Powers for over a decade. I watched the first one again recently, and it was still funny!

Goldmember had my favorite quote of the series.
