shite, man. I thought when I threw that reference out there, it was going to be met with complete silence. I'm stunned anyone has even heard about that movie, let alone seen it. Carry on, fellas...I didn't mean to frick up anyone's childhood memories

THRILLHO and Teddy at the Movies give Robot Jox

and if this were Michael Bay or Roland Emerich, I wouldn't give a shite. But I'll give Del Toro the benefit of the doubt.

you're shocked that children of the 80s have seen a relatively well advertised movie that came out when they were kids about giant robots controlled by humans fighting each other?

MI LSU, i'm going to get in this thing, and i'm going to kick. your. arse.

is it a law that all trailers must have the inception type horn in them now?

I thought the same thing.

This one looks interesting. To be honest though, I was pumped when it started cuz the premise seems pretty cool (portal in the Pacific Ocean), but I wasn't a huge fan of it when it turned into us making giant "Real Steel" rock'em sock'em robots to fight them.

I do love me some Idris Elba though. As of now, I plan to see this one, but if I hear about it sucking, I won't really hesitate to pass on it.

I've never heard of Robot Jox, and I am a huge product of the 80s. Literally never heard the name until this thread.

Looks pretty cool, but why do they have to build giant robot suits? Why don't they just bomb them or call Mintberry Crunch.

If your first inclination is to ask "why build (fricking awesome) giant robot suits (to fight the giant monsters from another dimension)", then methinks this movie ain't for you.....

the first previews i saw about this movie didn't show the robots and i was pumped. I'm a sucker for any and all monster movies. Now that i've seen the robots, i'm still a little pumped but not as much.
It reminds me more of Mechagodzilla's premise.

It's like people on this board forgot just how awesome del Toro is. This isn't Michael Bay we're talking about. The man can tell a story without getting bogged down in sappy, overwrought bullshite or over the top set pieces.

That's because it was in the theaters for about a half hour.

If you look at its box office numbers, every person who has ever seen it has posted in this thread.

Maybe missiles don't work for some reason. Who knows?

Like someone above me said, maybe you guys are forgetting just who Guillermo del Toro is.

I enjoyed the movie as much as the next guy (as a kid...like many other movies from childhood, it doesn't stand up to time very well), but it wasn't really a hit--to put it nicely. The movie was a bomb, making only 1.2 million at the box office TOTAL (even with inflation, that's an abysmal number).
