Deadwood is one of my favorite shows of all time.

I've heard great things about Deadwood but haven't watched it. So I need to add that to my bucket.
Walking Dead's 1st 3 seasons are good. I think I punched out after season 5. But from what I've heard about Deadwood, these shows aren't in the same league. So I would go with Deadwood.

Deadwood is the better show but it's short. Only 36 episodes
True, but the episodes are usually between 50 and 60 minutes, so you are essentially looking at 18 feature length movies.

Never seen either. Wanting to start new series. What say you?
You realize Deadwood isn't about zombies, right?

It’s funny that literally zero people in this thread have said TWD.
Deadwood is absolutely great. The third season dips a tad and is a bit of a letdown. But it’s an awesome, fun show. And Al Swearengin is one of the best TV characters of all time. And the movie is even pretty good as well.
But I’ll throw some love to the first 5 or 6 seasons of TWD. It’s really good for a while and was appointment viewing at one point. I think the latter seasons of the show have turned people off on the series as a whole, which makes sense since even I checked out after a certain significant incident happened (don't remember which season that was when ____ left). Sure, TWD got repetitive and sort of silly eventually. But that show was awesome for a good while.
But all of that being said, since the OP directly is asking between the two, it’s Deadwood and it’s not close.

I dipped out of TWD at end of season 4. Great premise and good execution initially, but it fell and got repetitive. Also, you can only tolerate characters doing retarded shite for so long.
Deadwood is just superior.

Watched the first episode of Deadwood. A lot of familiar faces.
Now I see where all the cocksucker references came from

“Take him over to Wu” = the original “take him to the train station”.

Deadwood no doubt! BUT it all depends on your preferences. Walking dead is more sci-fi oriented (apocalyptic) which is not my cup of tea.

The first season of the TWD is an all time classic. It’s easily on par with shows like Breaking Bad in terms of the acting, character development, music, etc.
Then they fired Darabont and it all went downhill from there.

Deadwood, all three seasons need to be watched.
Walking Dead, You can stop at the end of season 6

Each season of TWD is like every day of Peter Gibbons' life.
Peter: So I was sitting down in my living room today watching The Walking Dead and I realized, ever since I started watching, every single season of this show has been worse than the season before it. So this means that every season I'm seeing, that's the worst season of this show.
Hypnotherapist: What about this season? Is this the worst season of The Walking Dead?
Peter: Yeah.
Hypnotherapist: Whoa, that's fricked up. I'm sorry.

There is only one correct answer to this question, and it isn't Walking Dead.
