Daisy Ridley says she wasn't getting much work right after finishing Star Wars

One would presume that Daisy Ridley, the face of a multi-billion-dollar global blockbuster franchise, would be swimming in job offers following the culmination of the latest Star Wars trilogy with The Rise of Skywalker. (This was also before the COVID-19 pandemic that halted Hollywood, by the way.) That, the actress says, was not the case.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly about her voice role in the time-loop video game Twelve Minutes, Ridley looks back on her mindset after wrapping the cinematic saga of Rey and how there was a slight panic mode when "nothing was coming through" job-wise in those first couple months after Rise of Skywalker hit theaters in December 2019.
"It was so sad to finish [Star Wars]," she says over Zoom from London. "When the film was released, I was like, 'Oh my God.' It was such a huge chapter. And, weirdly, the past few months of not having much… Obviously now it’s really nice to be working, but not having much [at the time] I feel like I processed the last five years. To be forced to slow down, it was good mentally for me because [Star Wars was] a big thing in my life.
"Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through," she continues. "I was like, 'Aww! No one wants to employ me.'" Ridley later remarks how "there were actually loads of things that I auditioned for at the beginning of the year and didn’t get any of them."

You really have to feel bad for some of the actors and actresses. Ridley, Driver, and Issac are all solid and were handed trash to work with. I'm not a big fan of Boyega but his character had a lot of potential that was wasted. Then they killed off all the old cast in piss poor manners.
This new trilogy was just really bad due to identity politics being pushed too much.

The dreaded "splash" factor. It doesn't matter if you were responsible for a bucket of poo being thrown at something... if you are close enough you are going to get splashed.
This particularly holds true for actors, who are the literal face of a movie. Elizabeth Berkley was the one who got to watch her career get flushed down the toilet because of Showgirls even though she did a perfectly decent job of acting. Kelly Marie Tran wasn't responsible for "The Last Jedi" being a steaming pile of dog mess, but she was the one that got dragged through the mud. In large part because Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy used her as a stalking goat to draw fire.
Ridley is a very good actress, and hopefully her career bounces back, but she's going to have the dislike from this series hanging around her neck. People are going to be a bit gunshy about hiring her and bringing that disdain into a project.

Mark Hamill got plenty of work after the OT... oh wait he became a voice actor.

I just learned that Daisy was nude in some British show where she played a corpse. Sweet.

That played a part for sure. So did trying to shift the creative direction mid-trilogy (which I personally think was the most damaging thing) and then shift back. It was like giving the key for a stick shift to a person who's never driven stick in their life. You can almost hear the grinding noises watching the trilogy again. The first movie was meh, but not necessarily BAD. Then the second one was bad for one set of reasons and the third bad for yet another set of reasons.
I don't know if it would have been GOOD per se, but the sequels might have ended up better than the prequels if they had stuck with what they were building in the first one. Well, if they had tweaked Rey's character to give her some flaws and depth. Ridley got screwed over (well, as screwed over as a person getting paid millions can) with a shitty script and terrible direction.

That was easily one of the worst acting performances of all time. I've seen better acting in actual porn.

Ridley is a very good actress,
She's the Hayden Christenson of this series. Not good looking enough to be the hot girl in romantic comedies, not a good enough actor to get more serious roles.

Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson and Natalie Portman all had stellar careers after the shite stains that were the prequels.

They had stellar careers before the prequels too.

Daisy Ridley will be fine if she wants to work and keeps auditioning. She's good enough and good enough looking.

I’d have to think these set of actors are the least attached to Star Wars of any trilogy.
Clearly the of trilogy has the strongest connection with the actors followed by the prequels. It feels like the sequel actors basically showed up, filmed their scenes, then went on with life.

Ridley would be perfect for Jessica Drew.

Her acting was awful although being turned up to 11 was probably what the director wanted. But based on how it worked for the SBTB crew her career was probably not going far anyway. Theissen was the only one who had a decent career right after. Gosselaar eventually got back in stuff over a decade later.

Is this all a Star Wars slow down or a big part of it a pandemic slow down though? It’s probably a pretty tough job market for the entertainment industry since it is a struggle to fly to a lot of places and assemble a cast.
She is not the most desirable hire and competing against much higher draws now that there is limited roles.

It's hilarious how many direct to video movies he starred in after star wars ended

Has she heard of this thing called Covid? Has she noticed how many movies CONTINUE to be pushed back?
