The scuttle butt is she'll be playing the daughter of Jo and Bill Harding (played by Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton respectively in the 1996 original).

quote:

Following her critically acclaimed work in Normal People and Where The Crawdads Sing, Daisy Edgar-Jones has found her first studio tentpole as she is set to star in Twisters, a new chapter to the 1996 box-office hit for Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures. Lee Isaac Chung is on board to direct from a script by Mark L. Smith. The film will be co-financed by Warner Bros.

Starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, Twister was a massive hit in 1996, scoring more than $494 million at the worldwide box office, thanks in no small part to the film’s ground-breaking special effects. The original film was helmed by Speed director Jan De Bont and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, with a screenplay by author Michael Crichton.

She was also great in Under the Banner of Heaven.

I’m not big on another Twister movie without Bill Paxton but they could do worse.

From THR:

quote:

The new story is not a sequel, nor is it expected to bring back old characters. The studio is describing it as a “new chapter.”

Edgar-Jones will star in the project as a former storm chaser who, after surviving a disastrous tornado encounter, now works a desk job. However, she will soon be forced to — you guessed it — go out into the breach once more.

This is how creatively bankrupt Hollywood has become. They’re making a sequel to fricking Twister

Would have been much more interested if they had Paxton.

So not a sequel as well as not bringing any old characters back from the original, but she is the daughter of the 2 main characters. Seems strange not to have at least Helen Hunt in the film.

Twister was good bc it was cheesy and Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton were great together. It was a typical 90s movie. Good supporting cast and a believable story as well.

What is her character to be anyway? A storm chaser from YouTube or something? Does she have a new technological device to detect when tornadoes will happen that is not currently being used?

Don’t understand making this film.

She’s pretty
at making sequels of mediocre 90’s movies that only appealed to the dummies

That they explicitly say isn't even really a sequel. It's just using the Twister name for a film that is connected to the original in a name (and slight character connection) only.

Hell, they even say not a single person from the original is in it.

I'm sure the new lead will be completely vulnerable and have a male co-lead to butt heads with who often calls her put for her unhealthy obsession over tornadoes....... Wait... That means no girl boss... Nevermind!!

Excitement instantly killed. May as well be another Hurricane Heist if it's that disconnected from the original movie.

It would be difficult to make another one with him.

The twist will be sharks. They can't use Sharknado because of SyFy. They are going to use the twister name to make it more "legit" and less comical.

Jan de Bont had a way with special effects I liked. No Paxton, I don't know. It's prob gonna be more serious. The first had so many cheesy scenes. The reason it was such a good popcorn flick.

Call it The Suck Zone

For some reason my parents rented this when it came out, I was 7 and I was so scared of tornadoes that I slept huddled in a ball in my bed as far away from the window as possible for like 2 years.
