In DC comics, characters from The Watchmen are currently crossing over to Batman's and Superman's Earth. Dr. Manhattan is (maybe?) responsible for the whole existence of today's DC comic universe, and Ozymandias, Rorschach, and others have followed him to this other plane of existence to discover why.

So I pose a question: If hints of Dr. Manhattan were to appear in upcoming DCEU films, with an overall arc of DC and Watchmen characters meeting and defeating their common enemy (Manhattan himself?), would the DCEU be saved?

the Watchmen sucked and the new versions of Batman and Superman aren’t far behind. Hard pass.

How are you going to defeat a “god” that can freeze time itself and deconstruct matter? All the bat buckles and Superman strength in the world won’t make the difference.

It would be a confusing mess, especially for those who don't follow comics.

This would be terrible in the movies. Doesn't sound like it would work in the comics either.

That might be a bit harsh, but I think there's a bit of truth to it.

Majority of Marvel movies make a point of showing how fun it is to be the superhero, and amazingly enough, that seems to sell.
Is it deep? No. Is it cool and edgy? No. Full of raw emotion? Nah.

But most people get their dose of deep, stressed out crap in their daily lives, and don't want to see it manifested into an escapist fantasy. They want fun action, where the good guy is someone you would be if you could. Nobody wants to be angry, bitter, and hated by everyone, which is the way DC is approaching these characters.

Ummm, no. Hard pass. Somehow it wasn't a total abortion even if I disagree with some of the decisions. Let it die.

Is the Dr. going to wear some drawers or Is he going to walk around for two hours with his junk hanging out?

Ironically - for decades, the DC heroes in the comics seemed to embody this more than the Marvel guys, which tended to have more drawn out, soap opera style plotlines which did try to be edgy and full of raw emotion.

On film, particularly tracking Supes and Batman getting darker in the comics, these trends seem to have reversed.

We need more strong female characters in our comic book movies! I would be on board with a female version of Dr. Manhattan!

I didn't think it was terrible. The soundtrack and use of music in that film was a thing of beauty.

Personally, I think that if they really do want to save the DCEU and not head toward solo films, then Flashpoint will be their chance. I think Batman and Superman need to be recast, not because of the actors, but because of where the characters are right now. Old Batman and Somber Superman need to go.

They made Superman a bit lighter in Justice league, and I guess they could continue with that, but I don't see how they can keep old man Bats. Flashpoint can go back in time and reset them to a different part in their life and introduce the new actors.

Personally, I think DC would be better served making great standalone films and abandoning the DECU. They could make buddy cop films like Marvel did with Thor Ragnarok and be very successful. It could take 3-5 years to get the DCEU right and by then, people are going to be burned out on comic book movies and Extended Universes.

Get back to great stories and people will still go see it, they don't need the everything is connect gimmick. Jumanji proved this can and will still work.

As long as we have a general public that includes people who can't get past seeing Doctor Manhattan's penis, Watchmen isn't the cure-all for anything (no matter how well it's made).

They're doing both. Which is how comic companies have worked, for the most part, for the past 80 years. They almost always move away from that as the popular stand-alone vehicles get drawn into the larger universe.

If the scene where they are going to the Arctic base while 'All along the watchtower' starts jamming doesn't get your blood pumping, then I think you might be legally dead and I can't do anything for you.

I don't get why so many people hate this movie, this is one I watch anytime it comes on. It's so unique.
