I think some on this board get triggered way too easily by self aggrandizing artists trying to make themselves feel like they are doing something more important than entertaining people.

And sometimes they are just pandering. James Gunn and John Cena seemed to be throwing credit for making Peacemaker “bi” like a hot potato neither wanted. I didn’t even get that he was bi in the show. I guess they were talking about a short reference to his time in jail. It was a bigger thing in the interviews than the show.

Yeah, that felt like a "Dumbledore's gay" thing.
Never demonstrates any sexuality at all in the books and movies, then the author is like, "There's totally a gay character in my book!"

As far as Peacemaker, I got the impression if anything he was a FreedomSexual.

Going to see the movie this Sunday for the Amazon Prime early viewing. The reviews I've seen seem to agree that the movie is very much a DnD campaign; Its adventurers in over there heads making lots of stupid decisions yet somehow coming out on top in the end. Seems fun. I hope it does well so we can get a sequel. The Forgotten Realms setting is as rich and has the historical depth of Marvel, DC, or any other setting. It is long overdue for a good run on the screen. If it makes over 200m, it will be considered a success worthy of more investment.

I find it so bizarre that the D&D movies that have been made so far are both essentially parodies of fantasy films and not some sweeping, LotR style epic.

I think they're playing to the nerdy aspects of the property.

They're trying to make it funny, and say "see, this can be cool", and they're trying to expand the audience that way.
It's like they think, if they made it serious, nobody would even consider it. It's not LOTR or Conan, the two accepted mainstream fantasies.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but I can see them taking that angle from the marketing approach.

Aren't you doing that?

I didnt interpret anything. I simply took what the actual people that wrote the movie said and reposted it

D&D gets a bit of a bad rap due to the days of nerds sitting around rolling dice

The Jarheads I played D&D with as a teenager would disagree. Now Battletech, those were nearly always nerds

I am waiting for it to stream. Let us know if it is worth it.

Based on the writers recent words, I am going to wager it is the men who are bumbling and incompetent, while the women are the strongest, smartest, and best at everything.

Not saying it can't still be good with that, just saying it is eyeroll-inducing. Chris Pine is beta af anyway.

My take is that Pine's character is a typical DnD bard... Hornball who "inspires" others. Bard's literally have an ability called inspiration. He is also a Harper, meaning he is an elite spy.

The Dungeons & Dragons movie's writing team reveal they intentionally 'emasculated' the leading men in the film and put the women on the front lines.

There goes my excitement. Guess I'll wait on viewer reviews to see if this is worth watching.
