I lost interest in that franchise when they killed off t'challa.

Shuri is a fine character, but her as Black Panther just doesn't work for me. They should have recast T'Challa. Maybe giving his "son" the mantel will be better, but I was hoping they'd take the Doomsday/Secret Wars opportunity to reset that.

Did they confirm Deadpool for Doomsday or was that just a silly thing for RR

It looks like they have with the android from Romulus. My honest to god issue wasn’t that they made Black Panther a woman. It was that the actress who plays Shuri is not a good actress. What the hell has she been in since her BP debut 8 years ago? Nothing

That and the fact that Shuri is a 4’ tall shrimp. I’m glad they are recasting, I like BP as a character, he has a need within the “Avengers” and I hope this next dude is worth a damn

Maybe I’m naive but they didn’t make that grey suit for Ryan Reynolds just for a ComicCon appearance. Secret Wars starts filming soon but even then if it was for that I feel like he would have been in the red suit tonight

Apparently the comic con trailer for Doomsday leaked online and Reddit and Twitter are losing their shite. Trying to find it now

The greatest studio film sins of the post-Covid era are Free Guy and Deadpool & Wolverine. Creatively bankrupt is an understatement. LCD nostalgia-bait. His hackery combined with Ryan Reynolds's bullshittery created a new goddamn Hellmouth. Levy has been churning out garbage retreads and remakes since 2003. Frankie Muniz vehicle, Big Fat Liar, is a bad movie, and it is his best movie (I've never seen Real Steel).

I did not understand your comment, as I did not know until your comment that he directed the Jett Jackson movie, which I've never seen. I have fond memories of that series, though. I am also just now learning that Lee Thompson Young died at age 29. That sucks.

Apparently Levy directed four episodes of The Secret Life of Alex Mack. I have to assume that is his actual best work.

I have enjoyed Ghost Rider for most of my life (including the insane second movie from the Crank directors). I have enjoyed Ryan Gosling. I'm not interested in Levy's version, because a milquetoast nostalgia Ghost Rider sounds fricking lame.

I don't think they were just "killing off t'challa" as much as they were trying to bid homage to Chadwick Boseman by not recasting the character immediately. He was a great actor, perfect for the role, by all accounts a good man, and he passed away humbly without ever letting on to the public eye that he was dealing with any health issues.

Yeah, Shuri can't carry a franchise but Boseman earned the respect of his role being more than a simple "position available" recasting.

I understand the emotion tied to it and Boseman was great in the role, but all these actors are replaceable. Most of these characters are 60+ years old and will outlive their actors.

With secret wars and the universe reset that is going to occur, they had the perfect chance to reintroduce t'challa who is a very important character in the marvel universe, but they cast his son who doesn't exist in the main universe.

So where's that from? I ask, because I don't recall ever reading a definitive "they don't speak" in any of his writings. I do know they don't have any lines or dialogue, but that's a different thing.

As a counterpoint to that, balrogs definitely commanded Morgoth's armies on the field. Gothmog, the main balrog, was High-Captain of Angband, and personally led said armies multiple times. I get that it could be telepathy Morgoth, Sauron, other balrogs etc, but there's also orcs and trolls to direct.
We just don't get texts with "you go cover the northern pass" and such.

Either way, telepathy or spoken word, they definitely communicated, and the only way to convey that onscreen would be an actor speaking.
I'm not sure Simon Pegg is the voice I'd put to one, but I don't know his range

Did I miss the "Internet Try Hard" memo on Free Guy?

It's not great or anything, but it was a perfectly adequate movie. In no way was it bad or melt-worthy like your post.

I know people have to be irrational over Marvel post-Endgame, so I won't comment on D&W, which was also fine.
