Big week for James Gunn's DCU. They probably thought they'd have no competition this week, but 'you can see everything' is all the rage right now. Embargo is up tomorrow.

Will you be watching Clayface?

Look out Clayface, because Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes are out for blood. And not the Theranos kind. Like box office blood.

After overperforming this past weekend with $15.6 million and a No. 2 opening, A24’s Gen Z-skewing feature documentary You Can See Everything won Monday at the domestic box office with $2.57M, clocking Paramount/Legendary/Capcom’s Street Fighter into second with $1.9M.

Calm down, newly merged Paramount-Warner Bros distribution and marketing execs: right now the domestic forecast has Clayface at north of $20M this weekend. We’ve heard presales have picked up for the film in the past two days, with the battle between Clayface and Holmes and Fielder boiling down to a market-by-market fight almost like a Red vs. Blue election. Note that advance ticket sales can jump significantly in the next three days as A24 adds showtimes for You Can See Everything. Major circuits’ presales for Clayface are wavering; some indicate an $18M opening, while others see it in the mid-$20Ms. What’s working here in the James Watkins-directed movie? That trailer scene where Clayface is cutting his face with scissors.

quote:

When the final box office analysis is run, it wouldn’t be a shocker if You Can See Everything‘s weekend results are near to even with Clayface‘s. And that’s not with the use of a Theranos machine.

Thought it was tracking for high 20's-30's? a low 20's would be somewhat disappointing for them

I love horror so I'm hoping it's good, but I'm honestly very skeptical. It needs to do well, domestically, because it likely doesn't do much in the international market.

It was the Monday mystery movie in the UK last night. I’ve seen positive reviews and one review calling it the “DCU’s Morbius Moment”.

How James Gunn still has a job is beyond me. If this downer sink him, Superman 2 when it does $450M world wide certainly will.

That doesn't surprise me. I believe reviews will be mixed.

reddit is telling me critic screening reviews get released tomorrow at 2 pm. Supposedly mostly a body horror movie and nothing really in the way of comic book stuff

He paid for his ticket. He wasn’t under the press embargo.

That doesn't appear to be sound reasoning.

I don't think a $30 million dollar horror film with an IP brand is going to be the final straw.

I think Gunn is a bit of a tool but I like the horror tone of the previews.

It is sort of a piecemeal universe when you do a Clayface movie without Batman. I guess not altogether different from doing a Venom movie without Spiderman.

Gunn wasn’t involved with this movie. It’s a Flannigan/Reeves/Watkins creation
