I’m a big fan of the horror genre, especially in the fall. That being said, I find the Chucky movies to be inane, silly, and not the least bit scary. I just don’t get it. Yet they seem to be popular. Maybe someone can explain why.

I think you kind of answered your own question here. They're not as scary or disturbing as other horror films or franchises, so they appeal to a broader audience.

i think the reason why most people love it is for the exact reasons you listed.

i mean honestly, most of the big 80 horror franchises arent scary and are kind of goofy. Hell, nightmare on elm street is almost straight up comedy in the later movies.

Give the original a rewatch. I did recently, and I had forgotten how good it was, especially compred to some of the goofy sequels.

The GOAT to me. Agree it got too comical but the plot to me is the best

Such as with dream-catchers, the Tasmanian Devil, and Tinkerbell, I find that trashy people tend to really enjoy Chucky. I can't explain why.

At the time the first Child's Play movie came out, dolls for children were the in thing.

Cabbage Patch Kids for the girls and the My Buddy doll for the boys.

I don't think it was meant to be scary; certainly not in the way modern fear porn movies are disturbing and gruesome.

But it took an innocuous toy that almost all households had at the time, and turned it into something frightening and sinister.

This show is sort of woke but it’s entertaining as hell and you quickly get over it. I could not believe how far this show went with some of the deaths. It’s pretty brutal. Stoked for season 2.

I still think it’s crazy that Jason & Freddy have gotten 1 vs movie & 1 reboot movie each since 2004, while Leatherface, Meyers, & Chucky have gotten the deluxe Hollywood treatment.

We go another 10 years without a Jason or Freddy movie & those franchises Might be dead like Frankenstein.

The Jason franchise is currently stuck in legal hell no idea when that will be resolved. Until then they can’t legally make any Jason movies
