It's one of the best miniseries I've seen in a very long time. It's really good.

It’s a good show. I give it 3.6 stars. Not great but not terrible

I’m curious, how old are you?

For most of us who remember the time period and the historical event of Chernobyl and its aftermath, it has an unreal level of truth to it.

It doesn’t feel like a “good show” to us, it’s like stepping back into the past.

Shave any of you seen that mini series?

It’s not like it was made 30 years ago. Every single person on this board watched it.

I saw it and consider it to be one of the better things I’ve watched in the last 10 years. I’d highly recommend it.

Great show, fault in many ways:

Dyatlov set the standard for testing and everything depended on AZ-5 button.

Dyaltov is one of the top Soviet deputy chief engineers and was to be promoted after the test.

He is the one they looked to on the testing, the numbers about the 200 MW and 700 MW are the numbers he came up with, in 1986 the math has not been done.

The issue with the double sized reactor had come out years before and still no one was doing the math.

The RBMK-1000 is double the size of the reactor the person who came up with the idea, he is the one to issue a warning on heating in the unit.

Basically, the reactor has double the rods of the first models and more importantly the rods are longer.

The issue with this reactor type is known by 1986, but this is the Soviet Union, and everything is top secret and is well known nothing goes wrong in the USSR,

The issue of the math and heating was called out before 1984.

But the techs are all taught the AZ-5 is the fix all.

The end scene in "Please Remain Calm" where to they go in to open the sluice gates, and the dosimeters are going nuts while the lights drop out and it fades to black...the hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up !

Been a while since a TV show did that to me.

Your post is difficult to read. Im not sure what you are refuting / confirming here? The test was supposed to be performed at 700MW and the explanation given in the hearing at the end of the series seemed to sit well with my former nuke operator buddy.

I wasn't even alive when it happened and had little knowledge on the subject yet still thought it was an incredible series. It actually pushed me to do a deep dive and the more I learned, the more I realized just how horrifying and mishandled everything was under the soviet government. Couldn't imagine what it would have been like living under their rule.

If the safety test that caused the Chernobyl disaster was required for RBMK reactors in the USSR, did any other plants successfully complete it? The director made it sound as if it they had no choice but to get it done.

That scene was like the one with Kusack in Fat Man Little Boy.
