I wouldn't say anything in the movie is really mandatory, there is a mid credit scene that is mandatory though.

After two days in release, Captain Marvel is already blazing a trail at the global box office, soaring to an estimated $98.7m including early estimates from China, according to Disney distribution executives.

The 21st and latest entry in the Marvel Studios canon starring Brie Larson took $44m internationally excluding China, where early estimates indicate a March 8 launch of approximately $34m, which would be the second highest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) opening day behind Avengers: Infinity War.

Early numbers put the tentpole on $5.9m in South Korea, $2.9m in France, and $1.5m in Italy since the Wednesday launch in those territories.

In the locales where Captain Marvel opened on Thursday, the blockbuster-elect stands at $4.8m in Indonesia, $3m in Brazil, $2.5m in Australia, $2.1m in Russia, $1.9m in Thailand, $1.8m in Taiwan, $1.7m in both Malaysia and Philippines, and $1.5m in both Germany and Hong Kong. Remaining territories have delivered $112m.

It opens on Friday in the UK, China, Mexico and Spain, among others and will be active everywhere this weekend except Japan, where it is scheduled to debut on March 15.

Meanwhile North America has generated $20.7m in Thursday previews, scoring the fifth highest preview grosses for an MCU release behind the second and third Avengers films, Black Panther, and Captain America: Civil War. Captain Marvel opens officially in North America on Friday in 4,310 theatres.

Overall, the film is ranking as the number one western release in all markets as well as the highest March debut in many and highest first stand-alone character MCU opening day in most. Highlights include the second highest opening day in industry history in Brazil, behind only Avengers: Infinity War, as well as one of the highest ever opening days in Indonesia.

I guessed 1.1 Bil for the film, but it's looking like it could go higher.

How long until Rotten Tomatoes disables or severely alters how user reviews can be submitted?

Hmm Captain Marvel got more reviews in one night than Infinity War has received in the past year. Wonder how that happened?

I think it'll do about the same as IW. It's really hard to do much more, unless you have something like 3D to boost totals.

They aren’t by invite. Regal does them at select theaters. You just have to see if any of the theaters near you has it listed. You’ll know it because it’s listed differently.

They had Captain Marvel listed at 7, 7:30 then 10 and 10:30. The fan event for my theater was literally listed as Captain Marvel fan event with one showing in one theater at 6 pm. Side perk: these showings usually have only 2 or less previews before them. Mine had Dumbo and Frozen 2 and roll picture.

I’ll see if I can screenshot my ticket (I bought it on the app) and put it up. I’m sure they’ll do something similar for Endgame.

Didn't really move the needle much.

Sweet! Thanks for the info! My local Regal is my preferred theater anyway since it has reserve seating. I'm going to start looking for Endgame tickets now!

Where have I seen that kind of discrepancy between the paid critics and the audience before?

According to my Regal App there are no pre-sales yet. I just looked.

Everyone on this board that has seen the movie has said that Captain Marvel does not overtly push a political message.

Brie Larson did though.

That's the problem. Actors and actresses just need to let stories be stories, not sermons.

Besides, if the audience score is accurate, the movie might just suck and the paid critics are propping it up because of money and "muh girl power"

Don’t believe Endgame tickets are on sale yet, but I just noticed that Five Feet Apart has a fan event next week if that’s your sort of thing. Dumbo has early showings at 6 pm as well, but no fan event. Shazam has showings at 4 and 4:30 near me. Gonna have to leave work early for that one.

Felicity Jones was bad in Rogue One as well. But she wasn’t suppose to be this bad arse top tier superhero either. Rogue One was poo until the third act.

I wouldn’t say that Captain Marvel has a political agenda but the Kree were the near epitome of an imperialistic Communist empire. Wonder how that impacts it in China. I’m sure some buffoon will try to compare Hispanic/middle eastern refugees to the Skrulls, but no outside force is pushing the refugees in our world out, it’s their internal conflicts doing that.
