Nearly everyone in here has either already seen it again or will see it again. I'm in for this weekend. And that's rare. The last movie I saw twice in the theaters.....

I do too, to a point. It's overblown for something like Pixar....everyone is going to see that anyway - regardless of word of mouth. Star Wars too. I don't think negative word of mouth would have killed TFA's numbers at all.
Word of mouth helped a shaky reboot/sequel like Jurassic Park though. It's going to carry this movie big time (especially with the people who enjoyed superhero movies, but were getting tired of them). That's probably a huge part of BvS's numbers, the word of mouth was so bad that even the non-nerds who still liked superhero movies but weren't privy to the information or cared enough to be super excited, just never went to see it. "Oh it's that bad? I'll pass." I'm going to guess Civil War will grab a bunch of those to keep it moving.

I know it's anecdotal, but "word of mouth" is what's kept me from going to see BvS. I'm a pretty big super hero fan, but I also have kids and have to be picky about the nights I go out, with or without the wife. I didn't want to waste a date night on a movie I know she wouldn't like and I probably wouldn't (I hated MoS). But I'm going to go see CW again this Saturday when she's having a girls night.

Word of mouth to get the casual viewer in and repeat viewings are the key to getting these type of movies to the 1bil+ mark.

Did I say that?

Just watched and thought it was a very well done movie. Much better than AOU.
And I really like AntMan. His standalone movie was one of my favorites and I enjoyed his scenes in this film.

I think so, I see no other reason to put him in this universe at this point. I'm looking forward to the Spiderman stand alone film.
So Amazing Spiderman 3 is cancelled right? They aren't going to have two spidermans, like they had two quick silvers.

I paid to see this movie twice. I got my ticket covered for two more showings so I figured, why not? So I have now seen this movie four times.
One thing that people seem confused about a lot is this idea that Cap was trying to keep Bucky from being brought in. He wasn't. He tells Black Widow specifically "If he really is this far gone, I should be the one to bring him in... becasue I'm the one least likely to get killed doing it."
He's specifically going after him to keep anyone else from getting killed trying to bring him in. Then he learns that they have orders to shoot on sight, so he realizes he needs to beat them there and see if Bucky is really completely lost now, or if he can still stay out of his Winter Soldier state.
He realizes that he is obviously not stuck in Assassin mode, so then he saves him from being murdered in the house, then suddenly has to save him from Black Panther. There's no way to know that Stave wasn't still going to bring Bucky in, as long as he was alive.
By the time Bucky broke out, it was clear something was up, so he and Falcon hid him to question him.
Something else I thought about in the later viewings was the extra poignancy of the Rhodey falling scene when you remember that Sam's flying partner was knocked out of the sky by an RPG. Him seeing the same thing happen to Tony must have been hard.

Yeah I never thought that Steve was going to help Bucky escape. I just thought he wanted to bring him in to keep from being killed or arrested. He wanted to get Bucky help, not see him dead or in a cell.
But I am curious as to when he will show back up again. Will he show up in Black Panther? Infinity War? And what about his arm? Replaced by Vibranium? I don't feel closure with his storyline. In fact, I feel like it's just beginning.

SIAP, but good god, the resemblance is astounding.
On the right is Bucky Barnes with Luke Skywalker hair.

I had a hard time at first trying to understand this dark path that Tony Stark has gone down. After discussing it with some people, I just think we're at the point in the story where Tony as lost it. He's been through a lot. I can even see his creation of Ultron taking part in making him what he is today. He's fricked up. He's made HUGE mistakes. Most of the mistakes he's made have come from his desire to do the right thing. In this movie we see Tony trying once again to make up for those mistakes by siding with the government in an attempt to protect the Avengers from themselves. Once again, a mistake out of a desire to do right. By the end he has realized that he's wrong once again. You throw in that moment of irrational anger he has when he finds out who killed his parents, you have a perfect storm. He's a very flawed superhero, almost to the point of being called a villain, but I don't think his intentions were ever to do real harm to innocent people. Bucky certainly wasn't innocent. I know he would not have killed Cap.
Anyway, I was really happy to see Tony Stark's character done justice in this film. Not justice in that he was always a perfect superhero, but that he was a well thought out and interesting character. Whether good or bad comes from his behavior and actions.
I think WS, AoU, and CW really work very well together to tell a complete Cap/Iron Man story. There are other elements there obviously, but I think the WS sets up the Bucky/Cap relationship and AoU starts Tony's decent into mental purgatory. Both of those story lines come to fruition in CW, we see how they relate to each other, and then finally we get a payoff. I think everyone can move on now and prepare for the next chapter.

Correct. No more Andrew Garfield.

I suspect that Cap will be getting a new shield courtesy of BP, as well as a new arm for Buck.

I would not be a fan of British Petroleum sponsoring Captain America in any way.

Finally you have seen the light.
I still think WS was better but this movie was still great .
Some things I disliked: The opening battle sequence with Cap, falcon, widow, and witch seemed like a reshoot. The CGI was horrible. The CGI and directing style was completely different after that. That fricking shaky cam in this fight was awful. Glad they didn't continue to use it.

I think the main reason I'm more OK with his character now is because we now have this movie. CW compliments AoU in regards to Tony. His situation mentally is more clear now.

quote:I disagree with this. After an opening weekend, which has a lot to do with pre-release hype, you can fairly accurately predict the final box office based on the RottenTomatoes score.
ke Pixar....everyone is going to see that anyway - regardless of word of mouth. Star Wars too. I don't think negative word of mouth would have killed TFA's numbers at all.
For example, excluding A Bug's Life and the original Toy Story, which were released before Pixar was a brand name, I quickly calculated the final box office multiplier (final box office/opening weekend box office) and correlated it with the RottenTomatoes score (I know this is nerdy).
Even with the restricted range, there is a 0.71 correlation between the RottenTomatoes score and the box office multiplier. Obviously some of this is repeated viewings, but clearly word of mouth played a role.
