Yall are bitching about diversity in a movie that takes place across an entire galaxy. shite is ridiculous. Oh no, there’s a couple of Asian chicks and a black guy with screen time!!

Did y’all decide what aliens favor whites more? I don’t want to limit the hate to humans only.

On the other hand, calling everybody racist is ridiculous.

In and of itself, it does not make a movie bad.

When it is shoehorned and has no natural place in the story is when it is bad.

So I read yesterday that they made Rose and her sister Chinese because TFA didn't perform well in China so they wanted to have a Chinese minor character. This is a smart business decision. It takes nothing away from the story. Rose was a terrible character, but her race had zero to do with it. And Chinese people probably appreciate seeing a Chinese person in the movie.

Maybe it didn’t do well because at had Finn in it.

Chinese people are notoriously racist.

Diversity doesn't make a film bad. I don't give a shite if Finn is black or Rose is an asian. Star Wars the diversity is a bit more of a minimal problem for me due to it taking place in a Galaxy "Far Far Away". It's shite like say "The Great Wall" or "Iron Man 3" when if you just change the race where it makes no fricking sense in context that pisses me off. Plus I like Rey and think that having a female protagonist was the right move to go in the sequel trilogy.

The worst case of it is one of the most diverse movies race related ever filmed: The Last Airbender. When Shyamalan first announced the cast and it was whitewashed, the internet lost its shite. So Shyamalan completely overreacted and cast every race that he could find, making it come across as even more unintentionally racist in the process (Ironic given he's Indian). And the show is not ethnically diverse really. It's just East Asians and Inuits. There are no blacks, whites, or hispanics. It was just ridiculous.

Bothers me that his character sucks. Lando was black...and a cool
character

Why does it bother you that Rey is female?

Doesn't really...but the character would be better as a guy. why...because im a guy and a girl being badass 1)doesn't make her any hotter and 2) is unrealistic

That said, ive really enjoyed some action movies with female leads Underworld and Kill Bill both come to mind

Why does it bother you that Rose is Asian?

Her character is totally useless and out of place. I also have absolutely nothing in common with chubby asian woman who are animal rights activists.

A question for you: what's wrong with a movie(whos biggest fans are 90% white guys) that casts white guys and hot feminine women?

You realize that actress is Vietnamese-American, right?

Has anyone in the history of the universe said, "did they really have to put that black guy Lando in the movie. His character was pointless?"

No one gives a shite what color or gender someone is in a movie. Just make a good movie and don't add characters that do absolutely nothing for the movie simply to add diversity.

I've voiced the diversity crap about the netflix series Godless. Inter racial couple, lesbians, women holding off a clan of badass's. None of that bothered me b/c it all fit in the story and made sense, and a good story was told. Great series by the way and is recommend it to anyone. I successfully kept my dad from going watch TLJ. He didn't even like TFA, he would hate this one with a passion.

So you think Alien would improve with Ripley as a dude?

Sorry, but my very first thought upon hearing of the sequel trilogy was "The main Jedi protagonist has to be a girl this time". It's a very easy way to switch it up and it's something we haven't seen in the main series yet. I think almost every director or screenwriter would have gone with a female protagonist with the sequel trilogy. I don't see how power in the Force would have anything to do with muscles. Plus Ridley is fantastic in the role and is going to be a gigantic star.

Literally no one is bitching about diversity. They are bitching about shitty story lines crammed into a narrative that messed up a movie.

Rose and Finn could have been blue eyed, blonde haired dudes and that entire subplot would have still been horrible

When you cast diversity strictly for the sake of diversity it presents a problem.. Just cast the best character possible for that role and make a good movie is all most of us ask.

Yeah, Rose isn't easy on the eyes, but I don't see how that plot changes (either this or TFA) if Rose and Finn are a different race or sex. I think if anything, the reason Finn was black is it's an easy way to imply he's not a clone of Jango Fett or anything close to it. Rose is an Asian chick just in effort to get the Chinese audience, which just isn't going to happen, especially when she makes out with a black dude.

Not necessarily. It all depends on the film. Ripley isnt fighting all odds to go on an epic quest to fight evil.

people loved Lando Calrissian. Which leads them to quickly realize Boyega and his character were just shoehorned in to have a black guy
quote:

Why does it bother you that Rey is female?

Princess Leia is one of the bedrock heroes of SW. Padme was liked more than Anakin. People genuinely like Rey, but not as a substitute for the most powerful force user ever in the galaxy, Luke
quote:

Why does it bother you that Rose is Asian?

Because once again her character was useless. An obvious add-on, with an add-on storyline to boot
quote:

Why does it take away from the story?

It makes you focus more on their political messaging than the character
quote:

I honestly don't even notice this stuff until I come here and see all the Poli board usuals bitching about it.

That says more about you than it does those that see it for what it is. Just because you honestly don't notice police brutality, doesn't mean the people that recognize it are nit picking
quote:

Black Panther is obviously being made for the brothas, but who cares? It still looks like a decent movie.

What does this have to do with SW?

Organic diversity is good.
Contrived (i.e. forced) is bad. It’s basically just pandering and tokenism.
