Han and Leia split because Ben went dark? Ok...why?

Cuz He killed a bunch of kids? Leia told Han "Letting Ben go to train with Luke was where I lost him, and I lost you." And then Han said "I went back to the only thing I was ever good at, We both had to deal with it in our own way."

That isn't conjecture, they literally spelled it out.

With Rey, her face in the middle of the fight after feeling for the Force is your answer. She was using the easy way to gain the power of the force, fear before, and in that moment, anger. He had just killed Han, and maybe killed Finn. She would have happily killed Kylo if the ground hadn't split.

I agree there is a ton left unsaid. I'm happy with that. But I think they gave us enough to at least see where certain things lead.

I loved Kylo Ren's character development. They gave us a ton of meat on him. Without outright saying it. Same with Rey, but I need to rewatch it because I didn't catch near as many of the layers with her.

I've said it in several threads, but the scene with him interrogating Rey was incredibly written. Told us so much about him.

I don't see how it's possible you couldn't be distraught in at least some way by killing the man who brought you into the world.

Also did you notice how Finn and Rey took Han's death much harder than Leia did?

Well, they saw it, and Leia perceived his death through the Force. Just because she locks herself away to cry rather than does it openly doesn't mean anything. It's pretty consistent of Leia as a character from how she was in the OT.

I enjoyed it. I do find it funny that episode 5,6, and 7 all have the same kind of story going on.

Mystery weapon is revealed (another death star). Death star has a shield up and the "rebels" need to get on the planet\ship to disable it so the good guys can come in and destroy the ship\planet.

And of course. Trenches to fly the ships through with ally ships going down left and right before the main pilot finishes of the death star\planet.

The villain in the movie, especially in one as epic as the Star Wars saga, is supposed to be scary, ominous, foreboding.

You don't think Snope fit that?

When I leave the theater feeling like I could bitch-slap the villain without fear or hesitation, there's a problem.

He tortured 2 people almost to death, had no problem slaughtering a village of innocents, stopped lasers mid air, etc...

Yeah. Sounds like a pussy to me.

Why was Rey so powerful so quickly with "no training" - stronger than anything we saw from Luke on screen?

Why did Luke run and go into hiding?
What was the basis for Ren going dark?
What was the basis and cause for Ren and Han to fallout?
Why did Han and Leia split up? Ren?
Is Rey Luke's daughter? If not, who is she and why was she abandoned and by whom?

All of these are pretty clearly answered in the movie.

You love the original trilogy because you've seen it a billion times. You saw this movie what, once? And based on your questions you missed a bunch.

could go on and on? Get my point?

You wish you had already seen the whole trilogy, you didn't pay enough attention to the movie, and you need to watch it again to realize most of your questions were answered and the ones that weren't are set up because it is a trilogy and not a stand alone movie? Is that your point?

Why would Ben's actions hurt their relationship unless there was an associated tension?

Dude if your child was a serial killer and a psychopath that murdered a bunch of your friends and tried to kill your brother, it would definitely frick you up.

And if you were a life long scavenger/bounty hunter/ outlaw married to a politician the relationship is already rocky. Think about the characters of Leia and Han. After all the shite Han said he went back to what he did best. Leia had to stay and help the Republic and the Rebellion. Han didn't want to be a political leader or any of that shite.

I swear some of yall nitpick the stupidest things. Leia and Han splitting is very believable based on their characters, their past, their personalities, etc...

That it was designed by a studio exec and not anyone who understood lightsabers?

Yeah. Sounds like a pussy to me.

Should've kept the mask on. Simple as that. All of his fear-invoking qualities vanished when he removed his mask.

That wasn't the point of the character. He isn't supposed to be just a "fear-invoking" enemy.

Meh, I prefer someone like Anton Chiguhr or Keyser Soze. Just a matter of personal preference.

As far as Snoke goes, he just looked like an everyday giant alien. There was nothing special about him.

At least we all agree that Rey kicks serious arse. And I liked some of the new minor characters who were introduced, such as BB-8, the chick with the big goggles, the junk dealer.

All those are not CLEARLY answered in the movie. To say so is clearly disingenuous. You're acting like I'm bashing the movie. I'm not. I'm pointing out questions that have been discussed over and over and stating they may have been INTENTIONALLY placed to move the plot forward in the trilogy.

As I stated earlier, ANH actually very clearly stated facts about Luke's past that were factually false going forward...so basing history just one what a character may IMPLY (as in this movie) doesn't mean much.

This movie was entertaining but flawed. I'm cool with that, I'm not sure why so many people are getting defensive.

Exactly -- seems like some posters are genuinely angry that there are actually people who are -- gasp! -- criticizing this film in any way, shape, or form.

The whole cross sword design is dumb. May "look cool" but it absolutely flies in the face of how swords work.

You have a cross bar on a sword to protect your hands. You don't have 2 extra blades to cut yourself with. And the fact that the way it was designed doesn't make any sense, even in the SW universe. We saw Darth Maul's dual saber cut in half. So any blow that struck the metal parts of his "exhaust ports" (again, makes no sense with all the canon about lightsaber technology) would sever them, allowing the "exhaust" (what is this, a V8!?) to escape.

There are similar designs that could feasibly work, given what we know. But they didn't use them because it wasn't designed with any sort of consistency in mind. It was a studio exec's idea of what "looked cool".

Same as the Starkiller Base.

I'm willing to suspend my sense of reality for movies. We've been doing it since Star Wars came out. But there have been decades of halfway plausible canon established about "how things work" in this universe.

And they shite all over them.

It was good, but it was totally unoriginal. Just a straight up ripoff of episode 4. Though I'd still watch it again. The prequels were better stories and I don't get the hate for them.

Movie was awful.

And the only miserable people are the herd mentality assholes who want to alienate and insult everyone who didnt like it. Jj turned Star Wars into his little sjw social engineering project. The plot was utterly formulaic. Utterly. There was zero originality and when they tried to mix formulas in their ham handed attempt to convince us that they are actually creative, they failed laughably.

The dialog was ridiculous. Anticipating that detractors would say that doesn't make it less so and is pretty much an admission on your part.

Most of the characters were shallow, and the villains were ridiculous little bitches. The fat that it was intentional only makes it worse and exposes the writer and directors lack of talent.

They gave this project to people who have no capacity for original thought. It shows. Be a frat boy about it all you like. That is just the way it is.

It's not as simple as that. The two best scenes in the film are when Kylo removes his mask to reveal his humanity. If Kylo murders Han with his mask on, he's merely a complete monster with no humanity left in him. He's not supposed the be overly intimidating; he's supposed to want to be intimidating but largely fails at it. It's the point of his scene with Rey and shows Han Solo's bad assery and strangely humbling moment with his son by not putting up with it. The two best scenes in the film are largely ruined if he has his mask on and he's still violently intimidating instead of vulnerable. He was not Vader 2.0 as you were wanting and expecting him to be, and this is a good thing.

That he is highly flawed, conflicted, bitter, unstable, and not a finished product. That is what the lightsaber says about Kylo Ren.

That's the point of the saber. It's entirely flawed and incredibly dangerous to yield. He wants Anakin/Luke's saber not only because it was his idol's, but because the design is flawless. He has not figured this out and his lightsaber's flaws piss him off greatly.
