I watched the first episode this morning and was entertained. My wife and I used to watch this when we first were married. It was one of the only shows we could agree upon.

I hadn't seen it in a decade, but it seems to have held up. It is campy, but that is to be expected. SMG is freaking hot, too!!!!

One of my favorite shows and yes SMG was smokin.

Season rank goes:

3
5 (even though Dawn sucks)
2
4
6
7
1

Even season 1 was great though. While Firefly is amazing Buffy really was Joss Whedon at his best.

It is one of the great shows of the era. Even though they probably should have left it alone after S5 and not come back on a new network, S6 and 7 justify their existence with Once More With Feeling, the Body, and any episode with Nathan Fillion.

Love it. Haven't seen the full series yet, paused on season 5, but it's fun. And Sarah Michelle G is

I agree. The tone of the show could go from ridiculous to gut-wrenching in the turn of a second, and the dialogue was amazing. He had a unique gift for that genre and really was a perfect fit for Buffy and her pals. He made you care.

I can agree with you somewhat. While Seasons 6 and 7 weren't on par with 2-5 I still feel like they were quality television that was better than a lot of other things on at the time. I also really liked the Season 6 finale, placing it only behind the season 5 finale.

Once More With Feeling is probably my second favorite episode of the series.

The Body and Nathan Fillion, were season 5 and is my favorite episode hands down.

That was a really good show. Well written, well acted, good characters and they really pulled off season long story arcs with satisfying payoffs (Something I wish Steven Moffat could do with Doctor Who). Plus, every female who was regularly on the show was smoking fine.

I own every season DVD and I have the unaired pilot with a different fatter Willow.

As a young man I was all about Buffy as I got older I realized that Cordelia was where it's at.

Just to clarify further The Body was Season 5, Episode 16 and should have earned SMG an Emmy nomination. Absolutely raw emotion in that episode.

Nathan Fillon didn't show up as Caleb until Season 7 (after Firefly had been cancelled and Whedon decided to use everyone from the cast he could on his other shows - hence Gina Torres on Season 4 of Angel and Adam Baldwin on Season 5).

I feel like Season One doesn't really hit it's mark until "Prophecy Girl." Season Two was probably the best overall season, but there was greatness in 3, 4, and 5. Once More With Feeling remains a fun watch though I hated most of Season 6. Season 7 was also disappointing, but I thought it ended well (though "The Gift" would have been the best possible ending - especially if it had gone as originally conceived with the Angel crew coming over to help out).

Top 10 Favorite Episodes along with brief, non-spoilery comment:

1. The Body - again, if this show had a different title, this episode would have won multiple Emmys
2. The Gift - perfect culmination to Season 5 and everything that came before it
3. Hush - My preference of the high concept episode
4. Once More With Feeling - Did the musical exceedingly well
5. Innocence - Fall out from one moment of true happiness
6. The Zeppo - Xander finally gets his due
7. Fool For Love - Spike's backstory
8. Becoming - Angel's backstory plus the culmination of Season Two
9. Graduation Day - Cheesy as all hell but great nonetheless
10. Passion - One of the episodes where there were real stakes for the characters, loved the last 15 minutes or so.

ETA: Saw Charisma Carpenter on FX one afternoon in high school and was hooked from there. Eliza Dushku kept me watching. SMG circa Season 2 was her absolute peak.

I watched this show from beginning to end, and was always a big fan of it.

One of the problems I had with it, though, was the lack of simple human characters other than Xander, and to some extent Giles.

Willow is a witch, Anya is a demon, Willow's GF is a witch too, Dawn is a dream made real, Oz is a werewolf, there's only supposed to be one Slayer, but oh... look, there's another Slayer, Kendra, and ANOTHER Slayer, Faith, and oh... a whole ARMY of Slayers in the last season.

When everyone is special, no one is.

The show was at its best when it addressed the group's human qualities rather than its superhuman qualities.

The Body is about WTF do you do when you find someone you love dead? The Gift is a fascinating episode about real, moral choices with consequences. Hush is about the terror of losing one of your primary ways of controlling your world: your voice. It's not a superhuman power. It's scary because it's a common human feeling.

The episodes that are consistently powerful reveal human nature in the characters. I wish there were more consistent humanity episode to episode. It would have made the series even more dynamic and exciting than it was in its time.

Oz being a werewolf is like a 4-5 episode thing and you completely ignore Queen C.

This. If I recall correctly, it always scored high with the critics too. Great writing and acting and an overall fun show.

You're right. I don't know why I was thinking he was in Season 5 with Glory. I got his character and Ben mixed up.
