What about the way he talks? I don’t recall the old guy in the tree acting that weird and awkward.

There is a theory that the old guy in the tree is actually Bran who traveled back in time previously and waited for his future self to arrive to share information on how to defeat the NK.

Probably because the old guy in the tree had been at it a while. Bran basically went from kid in a wheelchair to the 3 eyed raven in a very short time. I imagine that would be a pretty overwhelming and more or less fry his brain and any social skills that came along with that.
When Meera Reed left him and he basically just said "....thanks", she said that he died in that cave - i.e. Bran is no longer Bran, which he continues to tell people.

Bran didn’t get properly trained to handle it. It was dumped on him when the NK attacked them.
