So, I just watched Blade Runner for the first time. I figured, I like Ridley Scott movies and this is one of them that I've never watched and it got lots of good reviews.

Well I don't get it. This movie was really bad, and really weird. Why do so many people give this movie praise? Wtf is with the guy running around in his underwear at the end? I pretty much had a confused look on my face the whole movie.

Which version did you watch?

There are 7 versions.

Doesn't matter. They're all similar enough. The only thing remotely shitty about any of them is Deckard's voiceovers

Early '80s this was groundbreaking stuff in so many ways. At the time it was vastly superior to Alien. One held up, one didn't.

I made it 30 minutes into Blade Runner before I turned it off. I don't understand the critical acclaim.

Same. shite, at LSU I took a sci-fi lit class for my english lit credit. I skipped the second day the guy showed this movie. The first was bad enough. Was not a huge fan.

I bet y'all think movies like 12 Rounds, Act of Valor, and G.I. Joe were good movies, huh?

Not at all. I've been accused of being a movie snob more than once. I just didn't like Blade Runner. I can't stand Harrison Ford though. Maybe you need a really fine film palate to understand the subtle greatness of his acting methods.

BR is a top 5 SciFi film all time. I never like to say "you didn't get it"...but you didn't get it.

There may be the problem. I'm not particularly a fan either, but I don't hate him either. The art/style of the movie and the depth of the characters floored me. I was totally drawn into that world. Definitely give it a second chance.

I thought that at least one version didn't include Deckard's unicorn dreams, which basically eliminates any reason for suspicion that Deckard is himself a replicant.

And I love this movie, even though I did just use "unicorn dreams" to describe a major plot point. It's just an amazing world to look at, and I love Hauer's performance.

This is most definitely true.

Yeah, the theatrical is the version *spoilers* without the unicorn dream and with the cheesy voice-overs by Ford and the optimistic ending. */spoilers*

Even though it's been a few years since I've seen it, it's one of my favorites in the genre, especially the Director's Cut. Didn't really care for it at first when I was younger but it grew on me. Very impressive visuals, picture and sound for its time.

Directors cut is where it's at. None of that fairytale fluff, straight edge.

I like the whole grand atmosphere of the movie mixed in with old detective noir. I don't look down on people who don't care for it. There are plenty of movies people love that I don't like.

Encore is showing three different version's of it tonight. One with the "updated special effect cam on at 9 pm , one came on at 7pm and one at 11pm. I am hoping the 11 pm one is the director's cut.

They are showing it because it was released in June of 1982. The UK release was 30 years ago today. IMDb release dates

The director's cut wasn't released until 1992.

It, like Apocalypse Now has one version that is better than the others.
