rewatched it again tonite ... it's grown a bit on me, but i still think they were a bit blunt with some aspects of the story ... def did not like the water scene ... too determined to have them crawl from the water ashore ...

still visually stunning, right up till the time we got a warning about an emergency situation within the building and we'd have to exit immediately ...

Thought it was better than the original. Just a gorgeous movie to look at as well.

I saw it Fiday night and it was brilliant. The more I think about it, the more I love it. I want to see it again soon. The story is much deeper than people give it credit for.

Like how can Dekard's daughter work for Wallace but Wallace not know where she is? There are deeper mysteries in there outside of the base is K human or a replicant type thing.

but this movie is better.

Nothing about this movie is better.

1. Same issue I had with Interstellar - they mix the music and ambient sounds way too loud for large format screens - just obliterates any sort of nuance to the dialogue.

2. The story was beyond bad. I get the nice twist - but that's the only thing about the story that was remotely interesting.

3. For some of the crap that Gosling is catching - I thought he did fine - a rare bright spot in this one from an acting standpoint. Leto was okay. In fact, the acting, overall, wasn't the problem.

4. The movie was way, way, way too brightly lit to be a Bladerunner sequel. Now, I give it kudos in capturing the L.A. overheads, the spinners and the street scene - on those, Villeneuve and Deakins were spot on. Also, the retro interiors were good - K's kitchen was excellent.

5. This is by far Harrison Ford's worst performance in a film. Breathtakingly bad - the low point of the cast. Part of it is the story and dialogue.

6. I'm roughly at mid-century - call it 2/3 of the way through my expected lifespan- and certainly well past the half-way mark. I'll watch the original at my usual, 3 to 5 times a year clip. I'm never watching Bladerunner 2049 again.

So, once again - "Meh."

think you're being a bit harsh, esp with #2 (was there anything else that needed to be added? kind of big plot twist, isn't it?), but no, there's nothing about the new movie that's better than the original ...

1. I disagree. The sound in IMAX was masterful. Added suspense and intensity when needed and remained subdued when necessary.

2. I have no idea what you mean about the story being bad. At all. It was far more intricate than the original. It had a great mystery throughline while handling the spinning plates of Agent K's (effectively) coming of age. The reference to Pinnochio was not accidental.

3. The acting was great. All around. The lowest player was Love. I thought Ford was fantastic. I haven't seen him act in ages. He's just been playing at acting.

4. This is laughable. The movie wasn't brightly lit at all except in Vegas and during the day. It was one of the best lit films I've ever seen. The constantly shifting light in Wallace's complex, the orange filter in Vegas, the neon of the city at night. Truly remarkable. And not muddy.

5. Addressed above.

6. Good for you.

I did say the acting wasn't the problem. As to the point I was making in response to 2049 "is better" -

Rutger Hauer in BR was better than every performance in this film.

William Sanderson in BR was better than every performance in this film.

M. Emmett Walsh in BR was better than every performance in this film.

Edward James Olmos in BR was better than every performance in this film.

Brion James in BR was better than every performance in this film.

James Hong in BR was better than every performance in this film.

Morgan Paull in BR was better than every performance in this film.

Joe Turkel in BR was better than every performance in this film.

Joanna Cassiday in BR was better than every performance in this film.

Harrison Ford and Darryl Hannah in BR were as good as any performance in this film.

Just got out. Is there a better cinematography film? I mean I think 2001 is probably the GOAT but man this isn’t far behind. This is a great movie that goes toe to toe with the original

Sucks that it's tanking at the box office. I really enjoyed this film. And I never really liked the original.

Look, I love the original film a lot, but that's sad.

What's sad about it? I watch Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, and Blade Runner multiple times a year. They're highly rewatchable.

That's a bummer. This was an expensive movie for WB.

"It" was a massive success though. Justice League needs to kill it.

Oh I wasn’t referring to that. I rewatch the same favorites all the time too. I’m talking about how you won’t watch 2049 ever again.

I don’t want this film to bomb but I’m hoping that if it does end up bombing bad that they won’t take so long with home release because I’m definitely getting this in 4K.

Tanking is a bit of an overstatement, but yeah, it's not performing as well as expected. I'm a bit surprised, but it is a long movie.

But hell, it was packed at an 11:30am IMAX showing on a Sunday.

Is their supposed to be a sequel? Or are we supposed to feel happy just knowing Deckard met his daughter

watched it 11am IMAX here in franklin tn today.

i really enjoyed it and i've probably obsessed on the original more than anyone on this board. i have the original on DVD, directors cut dvd, HD-DVD and laserdisc.

i bootlegged the OST back in the early 1990s before anyone had it and made copies for all my friends.

ace is bit harsh on this one; it brought me back into the world of BR and for that i am eternally grateful.

well there's the whole replicant cells rebellion about to hit the fan so i'm guessing a sequel could be forthcoming.

the shorts really did a nice job of bridging the 2 films.

I can’t disagree more. Bladerunner is not highly rewatchable. A great film, but come on.

roger deakins ... he's been nominated 13 times for the oscar, but has never won ...
1994 The Shawshank Redemption Nominated
1996 Fargo Nominated
1997 Kundun Nominated
2000 O Brother, Where Art Thou? Nominated
2001 The Man Who Wasn't There Nominated
2007 The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Nominated
2007 No Country for Old Men Nominated
2008 The Reader Nominated
2010 True Grit Nominated
2012 Skyfall Nominated
2013 Prisoners Nominated
2014 Unbroken Nominated
2015 Sicario Nominated

i have no idea how he hasn't won previously, nor how he won't win for this ... if he doesn't win, it must be because he doesn't shower or has some other highly offensive quirk ... ain't no way there's better cinematography out there this year ...

However, the one imperative that Montreal native Villeneuve stressed was snow. “Right from the get-go, Denis said, ‘I want it cold, wet, and snowing. I want it to really feel atrocious,'” added Deakins. And that harshness as a result of severe climate change was conveyed throughout the production design by Dennis Gassner (who worked with Deakins on the Bond film, “Skyfall”) in the form of Brutalist architecture, emphasizing blocks of concrete and sharp angles.
