Theaters going away is the worst thing that can happen to movies.

Unless you a wealthy and have your own home THEATER - not some 75 incher in your living room with an overrated sound system - then nothing will come close to the in theater experience.

Couldn’t agree more. The demise of theaters is greatly exaggerated and will continue to be 20 years from now when they’re still around.

How interesting is Black Widow to the average movie goer or even the Marvel fanboy?

If it weren’t for the wife, I wouldn’t have watched and I’m a fan of the MCU. It just didn’t look appealing. It’s a fine movie but BW just isn’t a strong presence without another hero with her like Hawkeye or even Bucky.

Disney should be just as concerned.

The theater only gross is more than the openings for antman and the wasp and doctor strange. And the US theater + US D+ gross is more than Guardians of the Galaxy and Winter Soldier. It also made $10 million more in theaters than F9, which was not splitting the gross with any sort of VOD, and which everyone thought was a massive success based on our current low bar.

If Disney is learning they can make blockbuster money with the premiere access thing, they have nothing to be concerned about; they're even closer to cutting out a middle man and making even more money.

I love the theater, but the teenagers in the back of the theater that loudly talked and reacted throughout all of Quiet Place 2 also reminded me why I hate the theater.

I’m not sure why I would pay $30 for a movie delayed over a year, when it is free in another 3 months.

The $60 million on Disney Plus was from it’s entire subscriber base, not just the US.

They won’t do that. Unless they want to limit their revenue moving forward. I have Disney Plus and I have zero interest in paying $30 to watch a new movie on a small screen. If they go streaming only from here on out, then I’ll channel my inner Jack Sparrow.

I was talking about the 80 million theater plus the estimated 25 million of that 60 attributed to the US.

I don't think Disney is going to go full streaming going forward yet. I think they now have one true success with a dual delivery system, and they'll try to replicate that going forward.

Thee Real,

I still don’t know how to put that number in context. Not a lot of precedent for these situations.

Spent the 30 bucks. Watched at home with wife and kids. Will choose this option every time it is available.

Same here, wonder why there is so much flack from the theater crowd here. I can watch it on my 82” with my home theater, in my comfy chair, don’t have to drive to and from the theater, and can pause to take a piss. Don’t have to deal with people and sit in nasty arse chairs with sticky floors. Yeah, I’ll watch at home.

Lol you measure your screen in inches and think it’s remotely comparable.

They know this is bad, and the week two drop off will be massive. They’re actually fortunate that they got as many lazy stream watchers who didn’t have to get dressed or even leave the house to see it, but most people who want to see it have seen it. This movie hasn’t even made back half of its cost yet.

She's also dead in the main story line (haven't seen the movie so don't know if that's addressed at all).

MoM has the chance to bring her back in some capacity I suppose.

Time for Marvel movies to go on a break for a while.

Disney should be just as concerned. For a Marvel film to come $3M under Passion of the Christ (unadjusted) should be concerning for the franchise

BW only tops 4 other Marvel films on opening weekends. And those were all intro films of Marvel characters: Thor, Ant Man, Cap America, Hulk. BW is well established at this point

or that should just alert them that no one really cares about woman power movies and they shouldnt focus on a character just because they are a woman.

We're now letting a bad comic book movie with a b level star determined the future of cinema?
