Wakanda keeps apart from the rest of the world. It doesn’t engage in international trade or accept aid.

Its citizens are wealthy and secure thanks to the country’s vast reserves of the precious metal, vibranium, which has magical, radioactive power.

Yep. We wuz kangz.

Why isn't Blade at 100%?
Are you seriously going to sit there and argue that the social climate of 1998 was the same as it is today?

I’ve been calling it we wuz kangz but just joking because it’s a fictional Atlantis in Africa which is a shithole
I didn’t think it would actually be “we wuz kangz”

So 1998 was either a period of better racial harmony or it was Jim Crow
can’t decide

Well, there’s one thing for sure, wakanda is definitely fictional.
An advanced, functional city in Africa that isn’t wholly corrupt and run by Africans?
Only in a comic book

And Blade and Blade 2 were actually good. Blade 3, not so much.

Race and gender have always been issues of concern in the United States, but being black or a woman wasn't a political statement in the 90s.

Agreed. Kind of crazy such an obscure and weird character got his own movie in the 90s when the only superhero I can think of getting a big release is Batman

The Blade reviews all talk about story and characters and things like that. The Black Panther reviews are all about how important this movie is for black people and social relevance issues. Big difference in how critics are viewing them.

Now when I watch this and recognize the obvious agenda or statement will people still say I’m looking for something that isn’t there?

Marvel has done a good job not forcing any political messages into their movies. Other than black Heimdal and Valkyrie I can't think of any others. There's no reason to believe there will be a political message in Black Panther but maybe Marvel wants to get in on that now.
