As an avid follower of many of the shows listed in this thread, if you say you watched The Shield pilot and didn't watch at least two seasons, I call bullshite.

Yep, I don't think its even close really. The Pilot just comes running at you. You'd expect that you'd start at the airport and halfway through the episode the plane would crash, but nope, we start the episode right after the crash and is still one of the most memorable sets in history.

Anyone who's seen Lost will say Lost. Even those that don't like the show love the pilot.
Whenever I recommend the series to someone who is a little hesitant I tell them to watch the first 10 minutes of the pilot and then decide.

Agree that Lost and Miami Vice were classics.
But the pilot for Alias always blows me away as well. So much greatness in that episode.

Aside from the smoke monster attack, the pilot is not full of mystery and intrigue, plus it kind of seems put together. I like pilots. The shitty camera work lighting. I look them to look cheap, but full of promise. I'm sure that's just me. That's why the x files pilot always sticks out to me. I'm not bagging on these other shows though. 24, lost, etc...are great shows ( well at least the first 2 seasons of 24) and the pilots sink their teeth into you immediately.
