Bet the "Bale taking the role would ruin the Nolan trilogy crowd," wish that Bale would have signed on.
Yeah, you can count me in that group now. Don't know how they could've made that work, but it would've been really cool compared to Affleck.
Still think they should've waited after a few more Superman movies before they touched on the Batman-Superman crossover.

Kind of reminds me of Chris Evans (Human Torch from the god awful Fantastic Four movies) being cast to play Captain America.
Which worked out well. Evans is a fantastic Steve Rogers.

Says the grown man/insecure Saintard who worships a comic book character.

Either way...for every bad DC film there have been at least 2 or 3 bad Marvel films. Iron Man and The Avengers were the only two critically successful films from Phase One. The others received average reviews at best.
Critics said that IM3 was a better film than Man of Steel. Stop listening to critics. They grade on what THEY want a film to be rather than what the film is actually trying to accomplish.
Besides, do you think Disney cares more about what a few dozen hacks have to say about their films or what the millions (AND MILLIONS!!!) of people around the world say with their money?
Movies exist for two purposes and two purposes only: 1. To entertain an audience. 2. To separate that audience from their money. That's it. It's a business, always has been, always will be.

Well, god damnit. I like Affleck as a filmmaker, but as an actor, not so much. More proof this movie is going to fricking suck.
Really now?
So you've read the script? Seen the whole movie? Watched the director's cut and all that jazz? I know the bootleg business in China is booming, but gotdamn son. Seeing a movie before the script is even finished is some top level bootlegging.

Either way, it's a grown man dressing as a bat. Are people really like "OMG I'm totes not going to take the character with cute bat ears and a cape seriously if it's so and so actor."
There is a lot of validity with this philosophy. Ultimately a lot of things will take precedence over the guy actually running around as Batman.
The first quality you need is someone that can convincingly play a good looking athletic rich guy. Affleck has a lot of real world experience with that so he passes that test.

A Nostradumbass could predict this movie being bad.

I don't necessarily disagree with IM3 having a C- (I'd give it a 7.5 on a 10 scale), but IM2 with the same score? That's just laughable.

I agree I'm being generous but the film is a steaming pile of shite in my opinion. But I've always hated The Incredible Hulk. I think he's a shitty superhero.

They were both equally sub-par.

Storm plays Catwoman...
Don't ever mention that shite again. Ever. Don't even think it. That movie must fade into the abyss.
Am I the only one who thinks it's funny/ironic/interesting that the guy who turned his acting career around by playing the guy who was the first on screen Superman will now be playing the character that stands toe to toe with the best Superman to date on screen?

He does what he does well, although it is a narrow range of characters. Thankfully, Bruce Wayne would fit comfortably within that spectrum.
I really think it will come down to how much screen time Batman, rather Bruce Wayne will have. Will this be a true Batman and Superman movie, or will it be +80% Superman with some Batman sprinkled in?

I always see Johnny Depp though.
Same for me. There are just some people on screen that there presence usually takes over the role. Not sure if that is an acting problem or a screen presence problem.

Now that you have admitted your issues we can work on them. We'll start with a viewing of the entire Marvel U, starting with Iron Man.

because I like the character I worship him. You're right. Just like anyone who likes walt from breaking bad worships him. And just because I'm a saints fan I'm a saintard and insecure? Got it. Go back to sucking hakeems dick. You're better at it.

I'm going to wait til I see the movie before I really comment on Affleck's casting. Could be a great choice, could be horrible, or it could be somewhere in that vast landscape between a 1-level performance and a 10-level performance.
I learned my lesson long ago about judging a movie based on a casting choice before I even saw the movie. Didn't like Heath Ledger being chosen for the Joker. After the magic trick scene, I ate my crow and said I'd never do that shite again.

I wouldn't call it a "problem," I think there are actors whose ranges are small, but do that very well. I wouldn't call them great actors (and they don't have a problem) but they get by on the public's familiarity with their perceived notion of the actor. It's like Tom Hanks versus DDL. One is a fantastic actor who never plays the same role twice and you actually don't know who he really is. And the other plays a slight variation of the same character over and over again. The reaction to this character will completely depend on your connection to that consistent persona that is underneath all of his performances.
Those who really really like "Johnny Depp's acting," just really like the perceived public perception of Johnny Depp and not the differences of the characters he plays. Frankly, because there aren't very many.

Hulk isn't a bad character. He just has to be used in the right way.

Marvel U
How are you calling it the Marvel U but not including Daredevil, X-men, Punisher, Blade, Spider-man, Fantastic Four, and the other ones that are in the comic line? Don't want to admit that has more eggs than they do winners?
People forget that DC/WB also own Vertigo Comics, which has yet to have a crappy movie come from their label. Well except maybe Stardust.

Because
A) Most of those were made by other studios and not controlled by Marvel/Disney/Feige
B) They aren't part of the continuity. Maybe they will be someday, but those franchises are not part of this now.
This discussion is revolving around Batman-Superman which are part of the same continuity, so yes it matters. Why has no one brought up Watchmen? Because it doesn't matter.
But anyways:

Most of those films are on par or better than Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Green Lantern, TDKR, Superman Returns, Superman III and IV for sure, Steel Catwoman and Jonah Hex.
If you want to get down to the nitty gritty, they run about even. They both have duds and studs. This talk of overall catalog is a waste, but I obliged. Marvel is slgithly ahead because DC's bad is utter trash.
I'd say the worst of the worst are Elektra, Catwoman, Ghost Rider 1, Steel, and Jonah Hex.
And nothing, not even Ghost Rider 1, is as bad as Jonah Hex. Fact.
