So you saw one of the all-time blunders.

I don't know that Erik would have won the million had he made it to the final 2, because there's a good chance the jury would have still given it to Parvati or Amanda if she had made it, but he had a shot.

Especially if he could have ended up in a final 2 with Natalie, I think he would have won.

He'd have definitely lost to Cirie.

I'm also avoiding reading ANYTHING at all about 40, becuase even if I see a blurb like "john doe on this season" it'd let me know he's won before.

And since you watched 28 already, I think Woo taking Tony to the final tribal over Kass is actually the dumbest move in the history of the show. He basically threw away the win just to remain loyal to Tony. Great in real life, terrible move in Survivor.

I've been doing a thing the past couple of weeks of watching random episodes from random seasons. I had totally forgotten in Season 21, 2 people quit at the same tribal council.

21 was a pretty crappy season overall. I'm watching an episode now and I don't even remember which one of these people won.

That's generally considered one of the worst seasons. Especially coming after 19 and 20. A few gimmicks they tried were total duds.

ETA: Also, after that season they made a new rule that anyone quitting is ineligble the jury.

I started season 40 today and I can tell which seasons are represented if you want to know. You'll definitely be spoiled on some things if you watch 40 before these, but really I've found the best part of the show is not finding out who wins but seeing how they get there. I've been spoiled on several seasons on my watch (thankfully not s40) and it doesn't really dimenish the experience at all. If anything it makes you appreciate their game more.

Maybe this was a spoiler? I might be misunderstanding what you meant though.

It's also interesting to see how many seasons overall are represented. The one's you mentioned plus

2
4
18

I think that's 24 of 39 seasons. So to get the backstory on everyone you'd pretty much have to watch the entire series.

It is cool to see how close so many winners were to being evicted early in their respective seasons.

Or people who seemed like dead meat early on that ended up rallying and making it quite far, even if they didn't win.

Thanks! I think I would only want to know if the winners of 26/31/33/37 are on since I'm pretty set on those being my next watches in order.

Even if there are winners from seasons I've seen before I think I'd like to go in without knowing and be surprised

You really should wait until last to watch Season 40.

Or at the very least watch the vast majority... you can skip 4, 5, and 9... they are weaker out of the older ones. 14, 17. and 21 are nothing special out of the middle episodes.
39 is god awful, but the rest of the later seasons are worth watching for sure.

I am building up to it after leaning my lesson starting off with 20 as my first ever season.

I just started 26, and next week I'm gonna get the app and do the 3 recommend seasons in tbe 30s and finish up with 40.

On a related note when will the next/new season come out?

It was supposed to be this month but covid shut that down. I think they start filming early next year and should be back on schedule like normal.

Not this fall, thanks to the 'rona. Hopefully next Spring... not sure if they will try to airo three seasons next year to make up for it or just get back on the Spring/Fall rotation.

Supposedly it's going to be Blood vs. Water 3, with younger contestants than ever before. I'm thinking maybe a tribe of parents vs. a tribe of their kids? Could be interesting. That's all rumor, but the same source was spot on about Winners at War.

I read something, dont remember where or i would link it, that said they would be back to the normal spring/fall rotation next year...so basically this season will just be skipped and we start again like normal next year

The problem is that all the Fiji seasons have been filmed in the spring/summer... so they'd have to break pattern and film in the late Fall and into Winter to have one out for February.

Good thing is that it's Fiji, so that shouldn't be too terrible.

ETA:
I know its old, but if you want to see true "Survivor"...season 2 (my #1) is brutal conditions and it was back when they gave them nothing. They were basically in the Australian desert with nothing but some rice. Not sure if its still true but at one time it was the season where players lost the most weight.

The first 3 seasons are good. They are just much different in both the places and the game play than recent seasons. Watch 1-3 so you can see how the game has transitioned. Although some really like today's gameplay, I really miss the beginning years. They truly "survived" in those years. It was also before they really did "casting" for the show. I hate that now so many players are sought out by producers because they want the young and pretty people. I truly prefer a mix of society as it makes it much more interesting.

Also it looks like season 22 redemption island has the return of Boston rob vs Russell but you've got it rated pretty low. Is their feud not enough to carry the season? Why is that one rated poorly?

I just like less twists, less idols, and more straight up survival. I just wasn't a fan of the redemption island concept.
