It's the HBO new movie of the week. Is it worth watching?

Yes. Watching America kick arse is always awesome.

I couldn't finish it. I'm no movie snob (at least I don't think so) but I thought it was pretty bad.

I'll finish it one day though.

Which was done before in Independence Day. There was at least one other part that ripped off another movie, but I can't recall right now what it was.

Movie was ok for a far-fetched alien action flick. Lots of explosions, not great writing or acting.

I mainly wanted to watch it because there were some scenes filmed in Baton Rouge (convenience store at the beginning is the Fuel Zone on Staring next to Popeye's). Also kind of cool that they used real-life amputee Gregory Gadson in it.

Hopper taking command and the honors at the end were rip-offs from Star Trek (2009).

As I said, it is what it is. Peter Berg knows what sells. Good for him.

It is what it is. A mindless popcorn flick that America kicks arse in to pass the time. Sometimes a movie that's really cheesy with lots of explosions is just fine.

I liked watching the battleship ripping arse.

The movie was a complete box office failure domestically.

you're my boy, so ill stop ripping it.

it wouldve been better as a comedy/parody of big budget action movies.

you have to admit, the scene with the old people was the worst thing ever

Not the worst thing ever but yeah it wasn't good. I still got past it.

From what I understand, those old guys were actually veterans who fought on the ship or other ships during WW2. Gives you some appreciation for those guys. That makes it just a little hokey instead of it being complete BS.

It was released up against fricking Avengers.

Better release date in US would have easily doubled foreign BO.

Didn't we warn you it was godawful cheese? It's so bad it's most camp. Which is a shame bc just a few tweaks and it wouldve been solid.

Oh, I knew. My dad and I were trying to find a movie and we stopped on that and my dad was like "oooh I heard this one is really bad. We ended up watching the middle/middle-end and it was a great unintentional comedy. If it were advertised as a campy action parody, it would've been so awesome

The damned movie's like crack. Can't help but watch it.

Spoilery stuff below...

I get the concept that the humans were the aggressors; however, there are some problems with this (namely, the disregard for collateral damage/death by the "discs", unprovoked attack on the cops, apparently killing the grad student at the array control center). I think the scene where the alien "shows" Hopper their prior conquests shows they are not there for a mere "meet and greet."

Lots of "rip off" from the new Star Trek and this in terms of Kirk/Hopper characters: both reckless and directionless, both get "talked into" joining the Navy/Starfleet, both still brash and about to get the boot when the shite hits the fan, both initially want to charge headlong into attack and have to be talked out of it, both unexpectedly end up in command, both end up earning respect of crewmates/command and both end up getting commendations from the very person who was going to boot them earlier in the film.

Also, it was clearly set up for a sequel based on the "extra scene" after the credits, as well as the fact that at some point, the comrades of the initial group would probably come looking for them (since they most likely knew where they were going and would wonder why they had not heard from them).

Unfortunately, because the movie had shitty domestic box-office ( it actually made almost $100 million including the foreign BO [opened overseas 3 weeks before domestic release - died in the wake of Avengers]), the sequel won't get made.

You know they probably saved on make-up for her in the scenes where she looked injured/beat up. They just filmed her after a date with Chris Brown.
