How come there has never been a baseball movie where a team wins the World Series?

It’s always the wildcard, or pennant. But never the whole thing?

The team just wins the game to get to the playoffs because the playoffs are too long and baseball/basketball series usually have a back and forth win/loss rhythm which isn't great for a movie.

Yeah but you'd have to yada yada over most of the playoffs and probably focus on an individual player's journey then triumph in the final game rather than the team.

Here’s two

And while baseball is the backdrop for this one, it was filmed live during an actual World Series run and final. Fun fact, the original script called for Boston losing, but they changed the narrative when it turned out they made their historic run to win it.

I dunno but I liked how For Love of the Game took place over the course of one game, centered around an aging pitcher trying to toss a perfect game.

And yeah, IDGAF if I'm the only one who liked that movie.

You’re far from the only one. In fact… It’s my favorite baseball movie.

The Rookie was good, if only for Rachel Griffiths

I'd imagine this and for Fever Pitch specifically, they wrote the movie with one ending and then the Sox ended up winning it, so threw them for a tailspin and had to rewrite/edit.

ROTY kinda did the best of both worlds, with the movie ending "baseball wise" with them winning the pennant against the mets and heading to the WS. But as you noted, they give us the final resolution at the end that they did win it all. Nice touch.

Compare that to the total gut punch of Little Big League where the twins don't even MAKE the postseason thanks to ken griffey jr's leaping catch at the wall to end it. Man what a letdown that was to see as a child.

This thread reminds me that the ending of Varsity Blues is them winning the district title... but we never see what happens in the playoffs.

In major league off camera the white Sox beat them. Could been a cool trilogy with them winning g it all in the third one, but they go the opposite way and go back to the minors for a shitty movie nobody remembers

Angels in the Outfield did not end in the World Series. It too ended with the Angels winning the final game of the season to make the playoffs

Ah, well .667 isn’t a bad average for me.
