Sally was a selfish POS and now, even if its directing high school plays(?) has that thing that is the only thing that can make her feel validated, some type of fame. Meanwhile, she couldn't care less about her son.

I saw this differently. I think she finally came to love her son in the finale and that was reflected in her closing scene. She remained in need of some validation but had grown also. I liked her ending.

Yeah, she loved him so much she couldn’t even say “I love you too” when he told her “I love you, mom.”

I chuckled hard at Barry’s “oh wow” and him winding up in Arlington as a war hero. Such a Barry ending for him.

NoHo’s ending sucked but honestly, NoHo died with Cristobal. This was just a leftover animated corpse.

Fuches was actually the good guy there at the end protecting John. Also one of the few, with Sally, to ultimately be honest with themselves.

Haven’t read the thread to see how everyone else felt but I loved the finale. The story ending with the movie that was told and in the credits saying Barry was buried with honors and Gene was charged with both murders and is serving life in prison was a fantastic and unique way to end it. So cool.

Wanted Barry and Hank to live but I figured they’d die. Thought Fuches was going to die as well but I’m glad he made it, he was such a good character.

I had a hard time falling asleep last night after watching that because my mind was racing.

I liked the Finale, could it have been better? Yeah but I thought season 4 was good. The time jump threw things off a bit but I get what Hader was trying to do.

There were good parts to the season but as a collective work we have to be honest and put this down as the weakest season compared to the first three. Hader and his team tried some new things. Some of it worked, others didn't and it is still a good show.

I thought it was a weak ending. You have to suspend all disbelief to think Berkman would be considered clear of all involvement and given a hero's funeral.

The hand grenade scene was hilarious, I agree

If all the shows I loved had this quality of a weakest season, I'd be a happy man. If you had to rank them, this is probably the 4th best, but I still think it was great TV and wouldn't even put it in a "weak" category.

The more I sit on the finale, the more I like it. I'm not even mad at the lack of comedy this season, it was almost to be expected. The show started out as hilarious but also "damn this is kind of dark" and ended up as dark with humor mixed in. It got more serious/dark as each season went on.

Thought Fuches was going to die

He ended up being the only character to realize who he actually was.

Fuches' arc was also tied to his manipulation of Barry from childhood, and thus him saving the son became his means of redemption.

Same. The way he said “chicken pot pie” had me rolling too.

Loved the series and the finale. But, there were 2 things that I thought were not handled/explained properly:
In the second to last episode, when Sally went to turn herself in to the "cop", what the hell was that about? Guy had his eye bleeding?!? Was that the guy she had killed earlier?
In the finale, Barry is going full Terminator to find his son (again) and Sally and heads to Gene's house. He takes the word of a stranger to him (Gene's lawyer) that they are not there and immediately says to call the cops because he is turning himself in?
As stated above, really enjoyed the series but those 2 things just stand out as story points that should have been handled somewhat differently.

One thing I just thought about from either the 2nd or 3rd to last episode. Gene sees his son and they sort of reconcile. The son asks if he has the same number, and Gene says no but he'll give him his new one. Then later in the episode, Sally calls Gene when she gets to LA. How did she have Gene's number?

My assumption is that he stays as the criminal leader in the sweet house built by NoHo Hank.

As I watched it, I thought it was ending with the camera panning out as Gene sat on the sofa after killing Barry. That would leave the fate of Gene, Sally, and John up in the air and subject to speculation, a la The Sopranos.

When it really ended, I wasn't sure if I liked how they wrapped up all those storylines. It certainly was a creative way to do it, and it was executed well. Ultimately, Hader's vision mandated that we learn the ultimate consequences for these individuals.

Sally not responding to John's "I love you" definitely was a directing choice. I had hoped they would bond after Sally came clean to John and he immediately got on her lap to hug her. They seem to be thriving, but it's sad they don't have a deep relationship.

It also was a choice for her to blow off the attractive AP history teacher who asked her out, and it shows her self-absorption and possible trauma from her relationship with Barry.

I questioned why we heard Sally after the shootout but didn't see her. That implied she was wounded. They didn't show John or Barry going back to check on her, even though John knew she was in the building. It was daytime when Barry got to Gene's, so I wonder what happened in between.

I wonder if things would have turned out different had John and Barry reunited with Sally then.

They went to a hotel room together. They were laying in bed with John in between. Sally told Barry to turn himself in, but Barry said it was a sign from god that he was alive. That's when Barry woke up to see John and Sally were gone. He assumed they went to Gene's house.

It appears that we are in the minority, this thread for the final season of Barry is at 13 pages meanwhile Ted Lasso is 40+ and Succession is at 58 pages.

Is this a show that will continue to build a following post-finale?

It could. The Wire was not well received when it first aired (not claiming that Barry is equal to it). There are so many streaming channels and shows now that I think its going to be hard for anything but a very few shows to gain any sort of traction.
