Can #AvengersEndgame score a Billion Dollar opening wknd? Reaching $300M domestic is possible. Hitting $300M in China WED-SUN is very likely. Capturing $400M from the rest of the world can happen too. So yes, #Avengers #Endgame may just smash $1B at global #boxoffice this SUN.

How does that stack up against other big openings?

Record-breaking $60M THU pre-show debut for #AvengersEndgame at domestic #boxoffice. Beats old record of $57M set in 2015 by #StarWars Force Awakens & beats $39M of #Avengers #InfinityWar by 54% from this same week last year. Rest of explosive opening day FRI still to come.

Pretty sure 57 mil was the previous record.

Although the Force Awakens was about 45 minutes shorter. I am not sure how much that effects possible showings on Thursday night, if at all.

It's a record, but it must be noted that it's playing in more theaters than The Force Awakens did.

How much of a difference in theaters?
And how many more screenings?
Did the longer time make it have less per theater?

Endgame is showing in a record 4,662 theaters. TFA had 4,134.

They made up for the screenings by showing it way earlier in the day. From pretty much5 pm on Thursday, every screen was endgame.

Makes sense. Still wish we had some way of knowing the exact number of screenings. Just to compare the two.

Since you can basically screen TFA 4.25 times for every 3 of Endgame.

Right about now today, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is smashing the $19 Billion mark in lifetime global #boxoffice from 22 films across 11 years. By this time next wk, the #MCU could very well break the $20 Billion mark & then $21B later this summer after #SpiderManFarFromHome.

Entertainment Weekly says it’s already made $305 million total WW with most of Friday still to go.

They always low ball it though, I think it has a realistic shot at hitting 1 billion opening weekend.

I’ll be shocked if this will happen.

It’s too slow a burn to have an intense WoM build up from today.

Also, I figure the 900 million figure is getting pretty close to saturation numbers.

It’s a lot harder to go from 900 to 950 than it is 800 to 900.

The only reason why day one exploded is that so many theatres had round the clock airings in almost every cinemas. This mitigates the damage of the 4 hour turnaround for each showing.

That won’t persist through the weekend.
