I’ve said that I believe it was a worthy spectacle. I just think as a whole package it’s lacking.

I’m not sitting here hating it or fuming with rage because it’s the #1. I can live in a world where it remains #1. I’d just like to see a movie I like more unseat it.

I just really dislike Avatar and want to see it dethroned. I’d feel less so if it was Titanic.

No, I feel the same way about both. Sappy, insulting chick flick and global warming smurf Pocahantas.

Cameron must have deals with the devil, because that is just pathetic. Humanity has failed there.

Sam Worthington certainly does. Like he was put on equal billing as fricking Christian Bale fresh off the Dark Knight, and I couldn’t help but think “Who is this mother fricker, and how dare he think he’s an equal to Christian fricking Bale?” I think he sold his soul to the devil to star in the biggest blockbuster of all time, but his career has been a total shitshow since then. He could walk down Time Square and no one would notice him. That’s what happens when you sell your soul to Satan.

He was on my list of forgettable but serviceable actors. He, Garrett Hedland, Frank Grillo, Joel Edgerton, and Joel Kinnamon are entirely interchangeable.

If the Avatar sequels are good, any one of them could surpass what Endgame is doing. China alone will be massive

The Avatar sequels are the prime reason why Disney is comfortable with hitting the pause button on the Star Wars franchise after RoS. Unless they are utterly horrible, they’ll each clear a billion. Disney will do no worse than break even on it. Giving a director like James Cameron Disney’s resources is a production wet dream. Say what you will about the simplicity of the man’s stories, but the guy can put some serious production work in on a massive scale.

Maybe that last Avatar movie, if the franchise is good and gets audiences invested, but I seriously doubt it does that. Hell, Disney will be happy if each of them grosses exactly half of what the original did. Let’s overestimate and say each movie costs $400 million to produce plus P&A. That means Disney would bring in $675 million in revenue for each for a profit of $275 million per each of the four movies, and that’s assuming it costs them the same as it did for Infinity War for each sequel. That’s just from the box office.

Disney bout to eat bruh.

It will gross over a billion, but I’m betting it doesn’t get half the box office the original did.

Just hit $1.7 billion, these next three days are going to be really telling if Endgame can topple Avatar. Next week is Detective Pikachu which will be a tough out

No, Avatar did so well do to advancements in 3D and the price of 3D tickets. Will Avatar make a bunch of money? Sure, but it won't hit $2 billion. Plot wise Avatar was pretty generic, the CGI was what really set it apart

Exactly. No one movie prior to it has had that extensive of mo cap work done. Hell as great as the mo cap work that Andy Serkis, Terry Notary, and Sean Gunn have each done, no one movie since then has been able to do it to that length like Avatar.

No one enjoyed Avatar because of a complicated, new story. It was a hit in part because of its simple story. The MCU has been a hit as well because none of their stories were that complicated with twists and turns galore.

Blockbusters are about spectacles with simple, direct stories that don’t need a master’s degree to follow. Great television is about telling a long form narrative with great dialogue and character development.

Avatar was a movie made for simple people. Hopefully endgame beats it

That’s almost 100mm M-Th. Not bad. If it can do 50% drop off this weekend...

Already #6 Global All-Time. Will easily pass Jurassic World this weekend.

If it manages $400m this weekend, it will pass Infinity War and basically Force Awakens, then probably pass Titanic by weekend #3 (or well before). I mean, it's made more in China in the weekdays after the opening weekend than it did on its opening weekend.

True. Even dark Knight was made for simple people. Avatar just felt "simpler"
