I heard James Cameron was buying thousands of tickets and then returning them for a refund right before screen time.

Pretty sure I own most of them already, but it's a mix of DVD and Blu-ray.

Just checked our local Cinemark and most of the showings are booked tonight and tomorrow.

IMAX down the road is probably 50% full at most showings.

I was wondering if the first weekend was so heavily front loaded due to the event nature of it and people not wanting it spoiled... guess not though.

I’d still say it’s going to be tough to catch avatar.

I wonder what kind of effect piracy has on the long term with those getting better and better in quality

yeah i think it's going to have a monster second weekend.

Avengers: Endgame 2nd Weekend Fandango Sales 85% Higher Than Infinity War

Even with a 50% drop from the 1st weekend, looking at a $600M second weekend. It'll be interesting to see if the second weekend beats Infinity War's opening weekend. It'll be easily in 2nd place after that, and can work on closing in on Avatar possibly, which seemed impossible to ever be beat.

600 million F-Sun stats would put it at what... 2.3MM? easily gets it if that's the case.

ETA: just looked and there is one set of seats available side by side (not in the front row) from now till tomorrow night in Temple, TX this weekend. i think it's going to get 600mm this weekend.

Yeah, it's got another 300 million, domestically, after this weekend. That puts it around 2.6. So it would need another 200 million, WW, to pass it up. It looks like 2.9 billion would be a solid guess.

They’ve already said they are doing a box set for the Infinity Saga. Not saying that’ll be the artwork for it but wouldn’t dismiss it either

And not only are the theaters mostly full, almost every screen is playing the movie. I’ve never seen anything like it.

And yet it is consistently brought up every time a big blockbuster comes out, despite coming out 10 years ago, no sequel or any other ancillary media of note.

Not bad for a movie “no one cares or talks about”.

That’s my point. Avatar is only ever discussed bc it made so much money. No one otherwise talks about it. there’s not a huge public yearning for sequels. No other ancillary media of note, as you say. Avatar has a hit Disney ride but it’s not a part of the American consciousness the way MCU or Star Wars is, despite it’s earnings.

Avatar was a big gorgeous movie that was remarkable for it’s graphics. 10+ years later, we are all accustomed to such graphics.

Avatar is a garbage movie with revolutionary SFX. If it came out today, it would be a dud.
