This is literally the best Vacation movie.
Especially this. As the final Vacation (which yeah, it is), it features Rusty's ascent to manhood. Russ must survive and work his way up if he wants to experience all Vegas has to offer.
When he gets ripped off with the lame fake ID, he has a choice. He can remain Russ the boy, slink off and find some under-21 activities, or he can take action and get what he really wants out of life. Passion prevails, and he confronts the seller, demanding justice.
The seller is a gatekeeper of sorts. He will only make himself of real service to men of action. When he realizes that Russ is such a man, he instantly elevates him to majority status. "You are now Nick Papagiorgio."
It's almost certainly biblical, like when God changed Jacob's name to Israel, and it represents Rusty's final journey to manhood. Henceforth, he shall never be one who is brought on Vacations. He is now the one who leads the Vacation. Such as it is.

I honestly couldn’t rank the Vacation movies. Any one of them could be my #1 depending on the mood I am in.

I remember after Vacation Dana Barron was in some cheesy late 80's After School Special where she's some rich suburban Conservative girl who gets addicted to crack...
Yep, not simply cocaine - but crack.
And then in another Afterschool Special she's raped by her brother's best friend or something.
And then she was in another Afterschool Special where her brother has down-syndrome and the family just drops the kid off at an institution and leaves him there.
Afterschool Specials were not very uplifting.
