i did very quick research this weekend trying to watch it (the fact it came on Prime a day or so later makes me believe in the simulation) and i read there wasn't a US Blu Ray but that could be just wrong. i couldn't find one for sale after looking. only DVDs
I looked at my Amazon history, and it wasn't on there. I honestly don't remember where I bought it. Hell, it has been so long, I could have picked it up at Circuit City when they were liquidating their stores. I bought quite a few DVDs there at the end.

One of my favorites
The ending always gives me chills for some reason. When he sees the ships.
Wish Mel could have made a continuation (not necessarily a sequel) that covered conquistadors.

I have a copy of that Blu-ray. It says on the back that it is authorized for sale in the USA and Canada only.

I spent several weeks trying to show this movie to my little brother. Had to work hard to find a torrent and separately download a file with subtitles. Truly an incredible movie. The scene where the eclipse happens during the human sacrifices and the pure shock to their whole society/ world view is like nothing else put to film.

Great show! I have it on Blu-Ray DVD. Bought it at Best Buy many years ago.

History Buffs melts the frick down over this b/c he assumes this was during the decline (around 900 AD or about 600 years before Euros arrived). however, the Mays did interact with the Spanish, briefly
he also melts down about the native/jungle people not knowing of the cities, b/c, again, he assumes it was in the end of the classical period. in the post classical period, there were still cities but they were much more spread out and less dense.
he also criticizes the human sacrifice b/c it wouldn't have been done on that scale until there was Azetec influence, which was in the post-classical period.
he assumes this b/c he says the city is too populated and they're experiencing famine, basically.
even though almost every other indicator is that this is set in the post classical period. that setting explains basically everything. the jungle dwellers wouldn't have so many cities around to know about. the sacrifices would be more pervasive. there would be European contact. etc.
so instead of melting to sound smart (and criticize Mel Gibson), he could have just accepted this all works and the city may be a little too nice/big for the time. EVERYTHING ELSE FITS the post-classical setting. he pidgeon-holes his argument to, well, give himself an argument

Fun fact: one of the professors at LSU's dental school did all of the dental prop work based on what archaeological records showed teeth in that community actually looked like embedded with jewels, reshaped, etc.

Funny, I’ve seen this dozens of times on cable movie networks.

One of those movies that simply can't be reproduced on a television screen. The immersive theater experience was incredible, especially during the chase scenes and like you mentioned, the approach to the city.
The colors and textures just jumped off the fricking screen. It is a remarkable film.
firing it up on my home theater tonight. all of you are invited as long as you bring some good bourbon and popcern
