this is one of the harder movies to access in terms of recent releases. DVDs can fetch $50-60 on the secondary market and i believe the only blu ray release is European region only (so you have to have a region-free blu ray player outside of the UK)

watched it yesterday when i saw it was back on. still fricking amazing and pure energy. the scene when they approach the city is one of the greatest scenes in movie history. i understand this isn't a documentary and there are some historical issues, but one major part about movies it transporting you to a different place and there are few other movies that do a job of that as well as this scene. it's basically one of a kind in terms of movies, generally.

One of those movies that simply can't be reproduced on a television screen. The immersive theater experience was incredible, especially during the chase scenes and like you mentioned, the approach to the city.

The colors and textures just jumped off the fricking screen. It is a remarkable film.

i downloaded a copy of it about 2 weeks ago, but i can't find a copy to save my life that has the subtitles. Kind of a worthless film without them, at least the first half of the movie.

One of my favorite movies.

Awesome movie. I’ve looked at amazon every once in a while to rent it, it’s weird how hard this movie is to come by

I tried to watch it the other day and for some reason the captions were way off from the dialogue. Made it unwatchable, I'll have to give it another try, I thought it was an Amazon problem but sounds like it was a problem on my end.

Apocalypto is a truly great film. Think I'm gonna watch it pretty soon again thanks to this thread.

I have a copy of the Blu-ray. I was never aware of any restrictions. I bought it some years ago without issue on Amazon. It has US information on the disc and works fine on my standard bluray player.

Am I just lucky?

The disc says Buena Vista on it, which I think has been rebranded to the actual Disney name now. I had no idea this movie was a Disney property.

Bc it is cool to hate Mel Gibson.

This movie is so damn good. Just absolutely beautiful and terrifyingly brutal.

The sad/crazy part of it is that Mel Gibson is an incredible director who would have undoubtedly created several more high-quality films had he not been blackballed from the industry for nearly a decade for a being batshit crazy anti-semite/homophobe.

i did very quick research this weekend trying to watch it (the fact it came on Prime a day or so later makes me believe in the simulation) and i read there wasn't a US Blu Ray but that could be just wrong. i couldn't find one for sale after looking. only DVDs
