It's about the group Samuel Adams founded and ran throughout the 1760s-1770s. Judging by the trailer, it looks as if History has done their best to make it look as hip as possible.

It premieres tonight at 8:00 central.

I'll be tuning in because the Revolutionary War doesn't get near enough attention from television/film.

I've set the series to record on my DVR. Will probably try to watch the first part tonight when it's on.

Since it will be repeated, I'll probably go with Schindler's List on AHC

DVRing it

I love revolutionary stuff - read quite a bit. Looks like they will have try and push the "Ben Franklin was a womanizer" angle.

I won't because most of what the history channel puts out is garbage. They put out a good show every once in awhile but if that's the case, so can always catch it later. Sick of them twisting stuff around and claiming stuff that probably didn't happen.

So far, all of their historical fiction series have been gangbusters. Vikings, Bonnie & Clyde, Hatfields & McCoys. If this one is anywhere near as successful as those 3, i hope they make more.

I will, but I already know how it ends.

SPOILER ALERT

The colonists win.

Think about it . . . a bunch of youngish guys wanting to overthrow their government, causing all kinds of unlawful disturbances, violence, and mischief - recruiting for a battle against the ruling party. How they get an entirely British dude (in Franklin) to lean toward their side is interesting in and of itself. How did these guys (including Franklin) become "American" before there was such a thing?

And how would this go over today? Would the present-day U.S. support these guys if they were somewhere else in the modern day world? Would we supply them arms? Or would we be all talk of support, without wanting to rock the boat? Would we stay out of it entirely?

The best show about this is HBO's "John Adams" - which should be required viewing in all 10th grade U.S. High School classes. Excellent television.

I'll check it out. Interested in seeing whether it's "lifelike," or if they use that classic History Channel lens filter that makes everything look like a dimly lit old photograph.

The Hatfields and McCoy's, The Men Who Built America, Vikings, etc have all been good stuff they've put out lately.

Pretty much enjoy those especially Vikings and Hatfields BUT that World War II one with Hitler, Patton etc. was hot garbage and that is being nice.

Wasn't the popular opinion back then something like a 1/3,1/3,1/3 split between pro and anti England and don't care?
