For me it was second string. Nolan just decided to take, at the min 6 batman series and mush them into one. Bane????? Are you f*cking kidding me. "Oh hey I'm Talia's little gopher b*tch" Bane couldn't beat batman in the comics straight up and he new it. The character used that to create a plan that would weaken Batman all the while making him face his "demons". Then broke him like a Popsicle stick. That was the genius of the writing in the series.
The Burton movies took what was batman up to that time and made it awesome.
The Joker was a pretty balls on accurate portrayal of the character up to that point in time. Psychotic, Sadistic, genius and patient enough to work his plan.
Heath Ledger Brought a completely different aspect to the Joker. Straight Chaos. It was well played and deeply disturbing. But Chaos was his motive. Nicholson's motive was pure Sadism and terror. Nicholson Played the joker better than the Joker was written in the comics.
If it weren't for Nicholson Ledgers Joker would have been completely different. The whole time Ledger is on screen, every tick reminds me of Jack.

I hope I am not mis-reading this.

The man who wrote "the Dark Night" and some of the greatest stories ever drawn on a page, who has an artistic eye like no other, Frank *motherfriggin" Miller. Nolan wishes he had the stones to break ground like he did in the GN. Miller, only in my opinion, would bring you the Batman like Bob Kane envisioned him. Ultra Violent and not held to a 50's moral code for the kids.

For one thing, a Sin City type Batman movie would be fricking horrible.

two, I think you are underestimating Bill Finger's involvement with the creation of Batman (especially the fact that Finger created the Joker, his arch nemesis). Unless you solely mean the point that he should be a violent maniac, which I wholeheartedly disagree with you on. Nolan got it perfect when he kept the high moral standard.

Sure, Miller does great work with graphic novels and certain types of stylized film, but let's leave that to novels and not Batman films.

Tigerterror this last batman was a half eaten sandwich made up of a multiple of batman series, then thrown up and shite upon. Nolan should be f*cking ashamed of himself.

Here, I'll troll as hard as you're trying to:

Tim Burton's Batmans sucked arse. Its like if Johnny Depp isn't in the movie, he doesn't know what to do with himself. 5'6" Mike Keaton wasn't very intimidating as Batman and Jack Nicholson gave a good effort, but in the end couldn't save that abortion of movie. Don't even get me started on Batman Returns. Burton should stick to shitty claymation movies and leave live action to real directors like Chris Nolan.

Frank Miller made this abonmation:

and hasn't written a good book in years. Also there are a handful of writers who have written equally great Batman stories, Miller was fortunate to have the 1986 reboot (Y:O) and a good ending story on Batman (DK Returns) which he fricked up with DK Strikes Again.

Loeb's The Long Halloween is better than either of those IMHO.

Or they could just be a young director with ambition. Imagine following up this trilogy with a solid movie. The person who took the risk would be rewarded.

I think Nolan set this up perfectly for a continuation. There are a couple of directions this could go and still remain in the "Nolan" universe. By making Batman a symbol, anyone can step in; thus, alleviating the need for Bale and Bruce Wayne. In fact Nolan or WB, whoever made the call, essentially handed the role off to JGL or the character Blake.

I wish Nolan would stop with comics and get back to something original.

Give me Inception, Prestige, Memento, etc.

No more Batman and no James Bond or any other franchise.

No he didn't. He played Jack Nicholson in Joker make up. Again, he didn't suck at it but it was just ok.

He was playing a different type of Joker. That is why I don't like comparing him to Heath Ledger's Joker.

Not saying they weren't entertaining but Burton's first Batman movie was his best one, meaning it was decent, not a movie that you walk away from after watching saying,

Still apples and oranges here. I'm sure Burton would've liked to have Nolan's budget. Comic movies were not being taken seriously back then. I'm not saying Burton would've out done Nolan in any way though.

I agree with most of this. Bane, as I see you know, did "Break the Bat" straight up. It took Azrael taking over as Batman and putting on some modified gloves to be saved from death. I did not like the whole Bane was Talia's right hand man thing. I would've rather had her working for Bane.

Well, Memento was based off a short story his brother wrote, and Prestige was adapted from a book, but I still agree with you.

Prestige is his best film, IMO.

He will. He made Inception in the middle of Batman. I would imagine his next two or three movies wouldn't be comic book/superhero movies. Wouldn't be surprised either if he never makes another one. Maybe produce some more like he is with Man of Steel. You can also say too that his take on Batman was very original.
