You're not wrong. But I want to make the case for Cap's motivation here, beyond just the friendship with Bucky.

One of the key things to understand about Cap is that he is a man out of his time. His America is not the America you see now. It is the America that once was. When Peggy Carter dies, the only tie left to that America, "home" to Cap is Bucky. Losing Bucky means losing "home"... his last tie to where he comes from. Whether it makes sense to you or not, Cap doesn't like being totally alone in the world, and he acts partly out of desperation. Think about the Smithsonian scene in Winter Solider. Why did Cap go there? He wanted to be around the few relics that are left from his time.

So yes, Cap acted selfishly, when he is usually a team-oriented guy. But that's his internal conflict in this movie. It's not just about friendship. It's about Cap's place in the world, too. I think that gets overlooked because people focus too much on Cap and Bucky and their friendship, without considering what Bucky represents to Cap, beyond friendship.

They didn't really mention it in the movie, but also don't forget that Cap has already been betrayed by an organization he was working for (SHIELD infiltrated by Hydra). So it's very easy to see why he's not cool with handcuffing himself again to an organization that can be corrupted.

I can see where your coming from but I think tye scene at the end where stark says I was your friend to shows how the new world has accepted cap and he completely shuns it.

Yet, Tony has a chance meeting with a lady at an elevator and he completely does a 180 about being controlled? Really? The most arrogant, individualistic character in the MCU completely caves because of one lady's sob story. Who just so happened to know that Tony would be at that exact spot at that exact time? And that's not lazy writing?

Have you not watch previous films, IM3? Ultron? Tony has been having a hard time dealing with the ending of the first Avengers movie for quite some time now. It's pretty much the reason all of this shite keeps happening, b/c he keeps letting people like this woman get to him. He's still showing he isn't ready to take on the responsibilities of being a hero, which Cap sort of points outs when they talk about innocent deaths and having a few is better than having millions, as hard as that is to deal with, you have to.

quote:

As pointed out elsewhere, there just happened to be a camera at the exact location that the murder of his parents went down? And not even a camera set up along the length of the roadway (thus giving several hundred yards of coverage) but one set up across the roadway (so only about 15 yards of roadway is covered). Boy, that was awfully convenient.

I have a good feeling that this awfully convenient placement of that camera will be explained in the future. I'm about 99% sure it wasn't there just so they could have a reason to make Tony mad and fight Cap and Bucky. There's something deeper going on there.

Lastly, Tony Stark had hacked into the most secretive and sophisticated of espionage and surveillance organizations data systems (SHIELD) yet this file of his parents' murder had escaped him all these years. Mmmmmmkay...

First off, the tape came from Hydra, not Shield, and Cap received the info from files Black Widow got from Russia, not Shield. Why would this info have been in Shield files?

You are making a fool of yourself.
If you didn't like the movie, you didn't like. SO what, but don't say something so stupid as it being anything close to comparable to BvS.
One movie has has one of the highest approval ratings for a superhero movie, while the other has one of the lowest. You realize that BvS only has a higher approval rating than 1 of the 4 Fantastic Four films?

At least in Civil War we know why Baron Zemo did what he did.

Watching the movie I couldn't help but think they accidentally placed Lex into Civil War. That's closer to Lex Luthor than we've gotten in any live action interpretation of him. They should have kept it simple like CW did and just have Lex pissed at Superman for ruining his city. I thought Zemo was great in this, and for once the bad guy won.

People are still going on about the camera? It was pretty clearly shown in the movie the place Bucky killed the Starks was a DESIGNATED location where he was waiting for them on his bike. He sets up a camera so Hydra can monitor. It becomes part of the "case file" and the location of this preset recorded case file video is central to the plot and Zemo's plan.

How is that difficult to understand?

Yeah the whole camera thing is odd, he clearly steps in front of the camera to the bike before taking off.

He does, and he shoots the camera, which is kind of odd if it was there just to see proof of him killing them. Why did he shoot it, if it was part of the case file?

Well, if we're going playground on this...

Wonder Woman > Black Widow and Scarlet Witch.

Bruce Wayne's three day growth > Tony Stark's goatee.

Alfred in your ear > "Friday" in your Iron Man helmet.

I took it as he was well aware of the camera and that hydra was watching him. He, passive aggressively, shot the camera to let them know he did what they asked.

YES. That is a great observation. And it works with what I wrote. The issue is not that modern society doesn't want/need/like Cap. The conflict is that Cap prefers the old ways. Maybe Cap is a more than a little messed up. Much more than we think, perhaps.

Another solid observation.
