I get some real Inherent Vice vibes from the trailer (which is probably my favorite PTA picture), and was wondering if it's worth going to see in the theater before it's gone.

Is this the one with the 20-something year old girl dating the 15-year-old guy?

It’s more Inherent Vice, Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love PT Anderson, which is my favorite PT Anderson. I loved it. If you loved Vice, I can’t imagine this not being worth your seeing in the theater.

I just saw this a couple of days ago. Despite the odd premise (that a 25 yr old woman would give a 15 yr old the time of day*), it's a fun, goofy film.

*And, yes, I've seen all the OT threads about female high school teachers and their teen "victims").

25 with 15 yeah.

It really has no purpose. Bradley Cooper plays Jon Peters, the same Jon Peters who tried to put giant mechanical spiders in Superman Lives.

Extremely boring and pointless movie. I would recommend not seeing it.

I think PTA movies have a weird vibe that I like a lot but totally acknowledge are unusual vibes for a movie taht wont be for everyone.

IV is one of my favorite movies. to me the IV vibes are drug fueled unreliable narration and paranoia in a mystery. it can be tough to follow at points and the plot isnt necessarily as important as the perspectives/experiences of the characters.

LP was a good movie, not on par with IV with different vibes. its much simpler easier to follow sequence of events than IV. the vibes were a weird age gap romance that you dont really buy but awkwardly accept for some reason. IMO its worth checking out, but i wouldnt expect anything like IV.

Side question: did they put $14 billion into the advertising budget for this movie? I can not watch a YouTube video without seeing a damn ad for this thing.

No, but credit to the social media ad crew they had. Absolutely flooded my feed, and the short ads were masterful. Very effective and intriguing.

I generally reject 'it wasn't made for you' comments. I get it, I'm outside of its demographics, but I'll decide what I like and what I don't.

So it doesn't look like it's made for me, yet still, it sure did get a ton of buzz.

Anyone see it ?

I saw a short interview of the main actress who's in her late 20's, and was wondering about that. I thought, from the clips, she was playing a 17ish yr old girl, and it was a HS romance flick.

I also was under the impression it was a HS romance thing. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I don't get Inherent Vice vibes from the trailers at all. IV was stoner noir, like Chinatown meets The Big Lebowski.

When I started watching the movie I thought she was in high school. She was actually employed as the assistant to the yearbook photographer, that's why she was on campus. Although we find out that she was 25, she still lives with her parents and looks and acts like a teenager who just graduated high school and doesn't know what to do with her life. I think that's why it doesn't seem super creepy that she's hanging out with a 15 yr old. Emotionally she's still a teenager.

That's exactly how I felt at the end of Punch Drunk Love. At least he's consistent.

Just got out of it ... classic PTA. Some really nice moments and performances .. does drag a bit with the Bradley Cooper storyline.

Great design and soundtrack.

Does not overtake "The Worst Person in the World" as my best pic of 2021

It looks interesting and I'll probably see it, but Hollywood is just raw sewage now.
