Let's start with your definition of "bad arse"..They were entertaining even with so much content changed or omitted.

I'm not as hard on it as you are because the book was fantastic, but it had entertaining components. Overall I would call it Lukewarm.

Done. I did a package deal staying at hard rock hotel. Got park to park tix, early park access, and fast passes. I'm gonna try to ride hagrids motorbike as soon as we can get in there bc I know that ride fills up on the app with the quickness.

I did the same as you. We went 2 years ago, so I watched all the movies with the kids. I retained most of it and had a good time. My wife watched with us too. Didn't retain shite and had no clue what was going on at Universal.

never read the book and dont care too but the movies are all ok. The wife loves them so they are on as background noise every so often while she is cleaning the house etc. Entertaining enough to not mind them being on but not something gonna sit down a watch after seeing them a time or 2.

As for Harry potter world at universal......that place is pretty dern great. when you walk through that brick archway thing you are as close to wlaking into the movies as you can be. It is def immersive. Between the stuff they have there and all the people that are there in full costume fully committed to that "world" you cant help but enjoy it.

Gotta do the park hopper pass or whatever they call it and ride the express between parks and all that. Go get butterbeer at leaky cauldren and all that fun stuff. It is nonalcoholic but if you like butterscotch it is dern good.

The forth movie is not horrible . . . If you can get past the poor hairstyles.

You’ll love Universal!!

The two big Potter rides are top-notch and fantastic - really immerse yourself in Hogwarts and around Diagon Alley (get an interactive wand from Ollivanders on that side - Universal Studios - the line is much smaller for the wandmaker’s show).

Hagrid’s ride is great as well (though I rode it when it opened and still had some kinks). The Hippogriff small coaster is fun too.

Look for the light show at night and the Dragon at the top of Gringotts.

And . . . eat at one of the restaurants there too - the food is not bad for an amusement park. Has a British flair too if you want - fish and chips, meat pastries, and Shepherd’s pie.

Wish I was going. Miss that place. Have fun!

The way to go. Those fast passes are way better than Disney. Plus the water taxi to the park is relaxing.

Same with mine. My wife wanted to leave a tip at one of the eating places, and the waiter said they don't accept Muggle money, and my wife was WTF is Muggle money take this. Me and the kids were cracking up.

This thread makes me wonder if I need to go reread the books. I guess now every time I think of HP, I think of what happened in the movies. I've completely forgotten about some of the books stuff mentioned in this thread.

There is a ton of good stuff omitted...

Hagrid searching for the Giants with Madam Maxine

The Centaurs

Deep Dives into the Riddle Family

All of the Dragon Matches in the Triwizard Tourney

How Fred and George got their start up money for the Joke Shop

The more I type the more I remember

Its funny. I had forgotten all about them but still remember being disappointed when the movies didn't go further into it.

Most of that stuff I hardly remember. Just flickers.

I wish I still had my hardback copies. No telling where they are. I've got digital copies on my phone but not the same

That is such a big omission that I can't believe they left it out. It was never addressed who (or how many) made the Map.

My biggest complaint with the movie was the 3rd movie. All they needed was 3-5 minutes to explain the Maruaders Map and who Padfoot Prongs Wormtail and Moony were and about the map they created and would have bonded those characters together better and made a betrayal that much more significant.

My other complaints with the later movies might have taken more than 5 minutes to fix so I will just leave it at that. With the exception of the ending. They missed the best part of having Harry taunt and toy with Voldemort in front of everyone.

Edit: Oops. Not one, but two people beat me to it just now.

Agreed. Although I did love all the books as well, and acknowledge they are all better than the movies. Still thoroughly enjoyed both. "Always." made late teen PTJ put the book down tearing up and contemplating life as a whole
