Any Harry Potter fans in here ?
Never really watched the movies before other than bits and pieces. Taking the kids to universal studios/harry potter worlds in a few weeks so I'm devoted now to watch all the movies in order so I'll know what my kids are talking about and be familiar with some of the stuff when we go. I'm almost done with the second one and I must say they're pretty good. Do they get better as they go or are they all about the same ?

The first two are the most faithful to the books until you get to Deathly Hallows Part I and Part II. The third one is probably the best film but divides fans of the books due to how much it cuts out from the novel. The fourth and sixth films are the worst of the franchise with the fifth film being a solid entry.

I read all but the last couple of books. Didn't really care for the ending of the movies either. But man, those first few books were so well done. Even the parts where Rowling ripped off Tolkien.

It pretty much is what it is. If you've liked it so far, you'll dig most of the rest.

Not sure I could say it much better other than I like OOTP more than a solid entry. Personal preference.

Well, at least until the end of Part II then it jumps the shark largely due to some idiot producer.

I assure that was not the end of the books. The end of the books was more like this scene The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly than the idiocy that was the end of the movies. Reeks of some idiot producer saying the end of the books was too boring.

This is true. I think the reason why they did it was obviously to appease people who weren't fans of the books but it really was stupid the way they did that final fight.

No it was to appease stupid people and was also proposed by a very stupid person. Reminds me of when Kevin Smith was instructed to write a Superman movie by some retarded producer, but he had to write in Superman fighting a giant spider. Of course due to the parameters the script was shite. Then years later Kevin Smith was sitting in the theaters watching Wild, Wild West, and there’s that dumb spider, is largely agreed upon as one of the worst films of all time, and certainly the worst move of Will Smith’s career where he chose that over starring in The Matrix.

But done properly that ending could have been spellbinding. It’s so fricking insulting that no one was present to see Harry defeat Voldemort.

Dont forget the forced disintegration to create one scene of 3D cinema

This ending really does piss me off because it was perfect in the book as it was.

I'm a pretty big critic of the movies overall. They'll be fine for your purposes but they are just slightly more than fanfiction compared to original text.

First two are pretty good interpretations and the 3rd is ok but leaves out one of the most central storylines to the entire series. General consensus is they get progressively worse after the 3rd movie though.

I don't mind the Goblet of fire, my two favorite are Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince

Half Blood Prince

HBP is really the worst. They should have filmed the final 3 movies simultaneously like they did LotR so they wouldn’t waste it on bull shite subplots that don’t matter. They should have basically completely sidelined Ron and Hermione for a film (given them like 15 lines a piece) and kept the film firmly focused on Harry, Dumbledore, Snape, and Draco (to be fair I think they did a decent job with the later) and Voldemort’s backstory. They had to throw out the best scene in the film due to how much it tonally clashed with the rest of the film. This scene should have been the tone of the entire movie and 90% of the movie should have taken place at night: In Noctem

I think Chamber of Secrets is the weakest of the films, but they're all great. If I had to crudely attempt to rank them, I'd go

Deathly Hallows II
Prisoner of Azkaban
Order of the Phoenix
Goblet of Fire
Deathly Hallows I
Sorcerer's Stone
Half-blood Prince
Chamber of Secrets

They're all great, it's just personal preference, but the middle and later films are better to me. Prisoner of Azkaban is probably my favorite and I love Order of the Phoenix as well.

I just wrapped up chamber of secrets a few mins ago and I actually liked it better than the first one. On to Azkaban now. Mrs jkyle is none too happy about this harry potter fest going on

What really pissed me off the most about Half-Blood Prince is that they cut the entire fight scene during Snape's escape from Hogwarts in favor of a chase scene at the Weasley's between Harry and Bellatrix Lestrange that wasn't even in the book. Beyond that, they turned what was arguably the darkest book in the series into a romantic comedy.

Enjoy. I liked Sorcerer's Stone better but don't let anyone else's opinion sway which movies you like best.

And completely left out the backstory of the Horcruxes illustrated in the book through the pensive and Dumbledore’s search through Voldemort’s past.

That’s my biggest gripe with all of the movies. I understand that some of the subplots needed to be cut (although I’m down for a television series so that every nook and cranny of the novels can be explored) but they cut out so much and then added bull shite like that that wasn’t even in the books and was pointless.
