I absolutely love original Fright Night (1985) and grew up watching and rewatching it as a kid. Vampire next door neighbor is just such a spooky idea.

About couple of years ago I actually found out there was Part 2 made in 1988 and even though it was not nearly as epic as the first one, I still enjoyed it the hell out of it. There's just something about movie resolution, soundtrack and general vibe that I just dig. No CGI and all that crap we get today- all props and actual stunts. That's what a horror movie should be.

Sadly, we did not get Part 3 that was set for 1989 because the Menendez brothers killed their parents, i.e. Jose Menendez who was going to fund the 3rd movie with Tom Holland and Roddy McDowall(Peter Vincent) already on board. After the Menendez murder, that fell apart and Roddy died in 1998, having never given us another Peter Vincent performance.

CLASSIC

GREAT CLOSURE/TRIBUTE to 1st movie

It's solid. Never saw the second. The remake with Colin Farrell was actually pretty solid and is underrated I think.

Really? I was kinda excited about 2011 remake, and then was just soooooooooooo disappointed. The format, vibe, McLovin just wasn't jelling with me. Rockstar version of Peter Vincent wasn't really working either, IMO. Everything was off about it.

Not to mention the cheapest CGI crap. Whole thing was just cheap laptop generated CGI. So you can mark me down in the hater column for that movie.

I recommend to see the 2nd movie. It won't be as fast-paced and organic as the 1st, but it will still have some very spooky moments, great soundtrack and main characters will be back, most importantly(minus Evil who I think never got resurrected because FN3 didn't come out).

You do realize that Tom Holland said FN3 (based on original series) is supposed to go into production next year?

Roddy McDowall was an underappreciated Hollywood treasure.

I enjoyed the originals. Funny that Marcy Darcy was the girlfriend in the first one.

I thought the remake was good. Not great. Thought Charlie's girlfriend was hot.

I agree with all of this.

The original was great. None of the sequels were good. The reboot was ok.

It'll probably always be my favorite movie not only because of nostalgia but I just think it's a great movie. When I was little I was really into horror and for some reason my mom let me rent anything I wanted, I saw things like Fright Night, The Howling, Salems' Lot, Vamp, Waxwork, all when I was 5 or 6. Fright Night was special in that one scene it would be a comedy/spoof almost, the next scene it would be straight horror, and the next scene it would be sexy. It all perfectly meshed together and along with Brad Fiedel's amazing score it just had an atmosphere that was captivating. It also had amazing makeup and special/practical effects that unfortunately were phased out after the 80s. Jerry Dandridge will always be the coolest motherfrickin vampire ever, I never understood why Chris Sarandon never became a bigger star. And I liked the sequel btw, Julie Carmen was sexy as hell and that one scene of the vampire on roller skates coming down the hallway through the fog was terrifying

Great movie. I always think of the scene where Jerry walks down the stairs and hears Brewster scream when he sees what he did to Amy. There’s something about his pause and sadistic, satisfied smile.

I loved Fright Night and I'm with you on The Howling and the sequels but the first time I saw Salem's Lot scared the shite outta me I was a little kid and when I seen the kid raise up out of the coffin I ran like my hair was on fire to my bed and put the covers over me trying to hide.

Jerry's had so much hot arse he thinks nothing of turning two smoking hot call girls into dinner instead of concubines.

FN and The Lost Boys are imo tGVMOAT. For a horror movie the acting is very well done and the score is excellent.

I saw part 2 3-4yrs on cable after it's release and remember not caring for it. Because of this thread I intend to give it a rewatch asap.

Salems' Lot has been talked about on here and I've commented on it but it's still the scariest movie I've ever seen, and the book is even scarier

I've not read the book but I have no doubt it is scarier than the movie. A lot more details that they can't fit in the movie are usually left out. They made a remake of this movie in 2004 that can't hold a candle to the original.
