Analyzing the Lion King: Why did Scar's policies as king fail?

He inherited a prosperous savanna from Mufasa and within 2 years there was widespread disease, famine and a pretty shitty refugee situation. Obviously having a bunch of hyenas on your cabinet isnt going to help but there must be more than that to blame.

It was totalitarian rule with Scar's negligence of the resources and other animals that caused the demise of the land.

Personally I think Scar got pretty fricked. I mean how the frick was he to blame for a huge drought? Mufasa would have been in deep shite too.

yea the hyenas obviously let him down. simba approached the situation with a chip on his shoulder and had a much better supporting cast.

Over-consumption by the hyenas was the biggest issue. There was a reason they were not allowed on the pride land and it was because they did not respect the circle of life. It was always "I want to eat whatever I want whenever I want and I don't care about any other species than my own."
Also, unlike Scar, Mufasa actually roamed the savannah and played King. Guarding the land from intruders, settling disputes, and getting daily reports from his assistant, Zazu. Scar just lounged around in his cave all the time. Even when the hyenas came to him asking to hunt for food he rolled his eyes and offered them Zazu, a meager southern yellow-billed hornbill with hardly any meat. How lazy can you be

It was a house of cards. Built on blind faith and speculation mufasas kingdom had very pressing issues that he just turned a blind eye to. Instead of heeding the words of a wise voice mufasa refused to hear the issues at hand. Dissension was growing and once scar got in charge things boiled over and there was a complete economic collapse.

In his defense, Pride Rock's congress couldn't agree and pass anything.
He should have laid out an executive order though to increase military spending, as his army of hyenas was overrun essentially by a single lion with the help of a Meerkat/Boar interspecies gay couple.
