I’d have a hard time as a father not staying on those islands where she was spotted until I found her.

It was a good doc. I really liked that they interviewed everyone involved in the case. It was nice hearing directly from the people claiming to have seen her, fbi agents, friends, etc.
I lean toward the fell/jumped off the ship theory. I believe she would have found a way to contact authorities or her family at some point over the years if she had been abducted. She seemed much too bright to let people keep her under their control for years.

What about the guy with the stack of videos of all those people dancing
Who does that on a cruise ship
And the next door person who cruises alone
Creepy

Dude was on the boat to make a video clip of the insurance folks having fun, it was his job.

Finished the doc. Hard to believe the parents and brother are just sitting at home saying “aw shucks” while there’s enough witnesses spotting her in consistent locations. I’d be sick to my stomach not being there searching.
There has to be more to the story.

Binged the doc yesterday, and I have to agree with this. While the witnesses seem credible, it just seems hard to imagine someone as smart and athletic as her not finding some way over the years to get away. Although, I have to admit, the facial recognition expert saying the picture on the prostitute website seemed to be her was pretty hard to ignore.

Watched this last night. Did I miss in the doc how she would have left the ship if she didn't jump? She was last seen at 5:30am on the balcony... then gone? Wouldn't she have had to have gone back through the room where her family was sleeping to leave? Seems like someone would have heard that

The FBI checked them out, but a lot of them were pretty bad witnesses. The Navy guy didn't even report it til 2 years later or something. One lady just remembered some random event after seeing her on a TV show. You would have 100% wasted your time.
100% none of these people saw Amy. This happens all the time where someone is missing and you get these nonsense reported sightings. It's real common where someone is reported missing and they later discover they were murdered almost immediately.

How? Someone comes up to you and they don't know where an adult is on a ship after like 30 minutes of searching and you going to completely tear apart a boat at 6 in the morning and stop a port visit in 2 hours?
They check people as they get off a ship, what reason are you going to give for stopping the port visit here? He's operating the cruise like a normal worker.

Whether his reasoning is right or not, he came off as a pompous prick. Cruise directors should generally be likable people, this dude was anything but. He has a very punchable face and an even worse personality, from what he showed on this doc at least.

I mean look at John Heald, a lot of them are very pompous. He kinda plays into that to poke fun at himself.

IF she was abducted and trafficked, it's possible her abductors got her pregnant and she has children on whatever island she is on. If that's the case, I can see a mother not wanting to escape when she knows that means certain death for her children.

drunk/hungover got sick, fell overboard
I think this is the most reasonable explanation. She woke up a little after 5:30 and was hungover and needed to throw up. She took off her yellow shirt that her dad found in the room, used the table on the balcony to stand up on trying to throw up over the side of the boat and fell off.

Its kind of crazy to me how, even in 90s, they didn't have cameras that covered the entirety of the railing or any possible overboard sights. Seems like a no brainer to me. Would have answered a lot of important questions.

One thing that stood out to me is the dad says he woke up around 5:30 and noticed Amy was out on the balcony. He knew she had been drinking it seems. Why not go out there and tell her to go get in bed. I also doubt he wouldn’t have noticed her leave within 30 minutes of this. No way he would have been deep enough asleep again to not hear her leaving the room.

Were any of the actual “sightings” after the Dr Phil show publicity in 2005?
I can buy that the pics were actually her, but 8 years of being prostituted and as the internet and social media started to gain traction in the early 2000s, if she was being controlled by some sophisticated criminal organization, keeping her around and alive wouldn’t make much sense, especially now with all the new heat this has brought up

I watched this last night and still thinking about it.
How did the parents not hear her go through the room and out the front door? If she left the room and didnt fall over.
Then if she had been taken.............how in 28 years has she not reached out once.
The whole thing is just very sad. Those poor parents.

Interesting stats:
An average of 20 people fall off of cruise ships per year.
An average of 10 people go missing from cruise ships per year.
My theory is consistent with the Navy fella. The bass player prob talked her into a new life as she was depressed, not happy with her situation (gay, drugs, alcohol). She voluntarily left the ship with him once they docked that morning and got caught up a dangerous lifestyle she wasn’t expecting and thugs have her trapped in. Threats against family, kids, etc.
My only wonder is that she was gay so it’s not like she would’ve taking a liking to the bass playing fella.
Also, he was a cruise band regular and it’s not like this was a consistent occurrence with him.
I do think she got off the boat on her own to start a new life. That’s why we’re not hearing the full story from family/friends. I do not think she fell off the boat.

Fell off balcony.
The guy saying her body would have definitely washed up on shore, he knows the currents, is full of shite.
Many things left out, I think intentionally so they can have a show. The people said they saw the bass player walking back to his room between 5:30 and 6:30 am.....what time does his door lock say he got back to his room? They never mention it. If the door lock shows 6:30 or 7 am that corroborates the witnesses story.
If it shows he entered his room at 2 am and again at noon that does not.

I agree with this. Everyone reported it well after the "sighting" and only after they saw about it on TV. The mind does crazy things to find patterns. I definitely believe they thought they saw her, but it really doesn't make any sense. If she was trafficked, they wouldn't have kept her on Curacao. There are only 150,000 people there it's much harder to hide someone - especially if you are just letting them walk on the beach 4.5 months after you kidnapped her.
quote:The cruise director did kind of come off looking like an uncaring prick. But what he said was correct. The cruise isn't shutting down for a missing person - who at the time may or may not actually be missing. And since she was never found did they expect the cruise to just hold everyone from exiting indefinitely?

I'm surprised the family wasn't the first one to disembark so they could see if she left the ship on her own - because at that point her leavening on her own would have been the most likely outcome. The gangway is only about 50 feet wide there and they could have seen everyone exit the ship and then go from there.
People were suspicious of the old solo cruiser and thought it was weird that he was by himself. But solo cruisers are extremely common - especially older people. It's so common that on the fist night every single cruise line has a solo traveler get together. Most also have additional solo cruiser events spread out over the trip. He comes across as weird, but almost all solo travelers I have met in multiple countries kind of come across as weird.

An adult "missing" on a cruise ship for 30-60 minutes isn't even missing.
