Am I the only person on Earth who thought Planet of the Apes sucked?

Everyone I talk to loved it. I thought it was pretty horrible. Also, I don't get the Franco hype. He's like a piece of wood.

Franco isn't what is good about the film. Ceasar is and completely carries the film. He shows more through his emotions and actions than through his speech. It's very well directed and acted and thought it was great. It greatly surpassed my expectations and I enjoyed myself.

Haven't seen this movie, but Franco was really good in Milk.

I'm with the OP - sort of. This movie far exceeded my low expectations and it's definitely entertaining but some of the "classic" or "work of art" praise for this monkey movie...c'mon?

Ok. I will say Andy Serkis, as always did perform beautifully as Ceaser. But The movie as a whole was kinda cheesy. And that ending just reeks of a sequel.

Yeah, but I doubt any of the original cast returns for it, since Franco trashed the film, and the fact that almost all humans will be dead. They mentioned repeatably a Mars mission, to where I bet it will be the men from the mission returning to Earth seeing the aftermath.

The ENDING?!

They were throwing seeds for future films like Johnny Appleseed the entire movie.

Yeah, the whole movie feels like a set-up for the real movie(s)...coming in 3 future installments.

There was some douche in the original movie thread that gave a scientific breakdown as to why a movie about a monkey rebellion on planet earth was unrealistic, so it's you and him a maybe a few other dudes I guess.

I thought it was just okay. I had decent expectations going in (because reviews were so good), and it met those expectations I guess. But it was definitely nothing special.

And I've never been a huge fan of Franco either. Though I did like 127 Hours.

Too much monkey business and not enough monkey sex, but .... other than that, I thought it was alright. Give it 2 thumbs up, but wanted to give it 3.

I was disappointed after watching it. Then again I think I just don't like animal movies.

Serkis deserves an Oscar.

Celery needs to cleanse his palette by watching Burton's POTA.

The entire franchise has been nothing but sequels. So what?
If the sequel is as good and entertaining as the original I'm all for it. So many people prejudged this movie saying it would suck as there is no way they could explain a few apes taking over the modern day world--and they were wrong about that too.

I thought it was very good. Caesar is the greatest CGI character ever

The virus was the weak link. Why would it kill humans but make apes more intelligent. Also considering they were dealing with viruses, their containment procedures were ridiculously lapse.

Having said that, I went in with low expectations and really ended up liking the movie.

I agree that Franco sucks but this was Caesar's movie.

I actually like the virus idea better than the nuclear war idea from the originals. I mean, nukes would have killed the apes too.

I just think the virus idea was executed poorly.

But....that was such a minor part of the movie, it didn't bother me too much.

Well except for the idiot taking off his mask and then nobody worrying about containment. That did stick in the back of my nitpicking brain.

Virus idea = good
Execution = bad
Franco = always distractingly bad

I admit this is one of the first sequels that I truly look forward to seeing.

It is Hollywood though so I have no doubt they can lay a massive egg on the sequel.

Other nitpicks

The CEO. The guy was one dimensional and he made NO sense.

One ape going crazy but showing tremendous results would not have come close to shutting the program down. The CEO in reality would be wetting himself with delight.

Same case when Franco tells him he has an Alzheimer's cure. CEO doesn't care until he hears it can increase intelligence.

They needed a foil for Franco but the CEO was weak and didn't react in a remotely rational way.

They just needed a human for us to hate in the final copter scene which leads me to my last nitpick which was the Riot Squad letting a civilian into their copter while going after the apes.

So, I had some nitpicks but it was MUCH better than I could have ever imagined.

TLDR
