of course not...but is it really fair to criticize the acting for being awkward when that was the point?
I don't know. I did not criticize the acting.

Im not sure if i agree or disagree with you guys on this
I never really had a problem fitting into HS or anything, and i was probably more of jock than anything but theres a ton of moments in the show that i connected to regardless of my high school standing or clique.
For example, Getting shut down by a chick to go to a dance, i know that gut wrenching feeling. I felt that pain all over again when it happened in the show. They nailed that. You can sympathize with the characters in a way you cant with Johnny DoucheBag thats gotten ever girl hes ever wanted but wants us to feel sorry for him because his parents are making him drive an old car.
Plus, Bill Haverchuck is the greatest Television Character ever. I just want to reiterate that

I think the label doesn't matter. The show itself shows how characters try on and discard new personas all the time. It's the theme of alienation and rejection that is a common experience. Not necessarily being a "freak".

well catcher in the rye is fricking awesome. freaks and geeks is solid. i think undeclared is better. that is my expert analysis.

I loved Undeclared but i cant really compare the shows too much
Undeclared is strictly a comedy, while F&G is a sort of dramedy that was hilarious while also tackling real issues of high school and family dynamics.

The Bill storylines are what made this show great for me.
Spoilers below
Here you have this tall awkward nerd. He's picked on, under estimated, and he has a penut allergy that nearly kills him. His mom's a former stripper who starts dating his P.E. coach. The spin the bottle episode has one of the most redeeming moments in tv.
If you don't like the show, you're not being a dick. But I would suggest giving it more than 3 episodes before giving up.

You have to keep watching.
It's not like there are 90 episodes in the series.

But its still 12-13 hours of show to watch, it still has to have time to hit its stride and by the end of it, you love it all

Seth Rogans character was the only true freak.
Well, that and his girlfriend that was born with a wiener.

He's badass in Bones.

I don't know if it's brilliant, per say, but I do think it was ahead of its time. Especially in terms of the story lines and the issues it tackled.
Yeah, kinda ahead of its time. Always reminded me of Wonder Years. But I loved Freaks and Geeks, whether it was a rip-off or not. Not so much funny as it is just good old fashioned TV.

Am I being a dick if I don't think Freaks and Geeks is Brilliance Personified? (Posted on 1/17/13 at 9:14 p.m.) because i'm like 3 episodes in and while it's not some shite show, it's not this amazing thing that i'm missing out on I ask myself the same question about arrested development.
I don't ask myself the same question, but I don't think a lot of shows are as great as people make them out to be. For instance, It's Always Sunny is one of the single worst shows I've seen, in my opinion. I hate it. People on here and most of my friends love it. I also hate Eastbound and Down. The only thing those 2 shows are good for are light chuckles here and there.
Now, Archer on the other hand, is brilliant.

It took me about 6 episodes to get hooked. The acting isn't great, the story isn't great, but I personally loved the characters. They felt genuine, as others in here have said.
Eta
And yes, Bill Haverchuck is an amazing character.

I'm starting to understand why the show was canceled partway through the first season.
You either identify with the characters or you don't.
If you don't, then I can see losing interest in an hour long teen angst show.
However, I think the cult following has probably been largely aided by succes that many of the actors have had since the show. Honestly that is what first hooked me in, but I was glad I watched the whole season.
At one point I wondered when Leslie Mann would make an appearance since she is a Judd Appatow regular. The very next episode I watched was the peanut episode where she plays Bill's teacher.

Its the show that first inflicted the world with jason Segel and Seth Rogen.
For that alone it should be forever despised.
